We had a good time in a pair of mirrored games. I thought there was no way I was going to come away with anything more than a draw as the French. I think Paul may have ground himself down allowing me to make a come back. I did manage to get 11 men out the escape hex and we held the road and the heights.

This is an incredibly tough game for the Allies. Of the many games logged on the Blitz, the Allies only managed to win one. Swarms of infantry and armor smash into the Allies line. Mortars and arty keep their heads down. I chose to hammer the ridgeline with my 81mm mortars with deadly effect, pinning almost everyone in sight, including the US mortar teams. My arty came in to blast the top of the hill, and I hit the US flanks hard with my infantry, causing Paul to have to spread his efforts out, including trying to cover his men with his 4 tanks. This allowed me to get in behind them and take them out one by one, losing one of mine in the process. He made a final push to knock two squads off the middle objective with a combined infantry/armor assault, but the next turn I managed to take out the remaining two tanks. With most of his infantry pinned or demoralized, we called it a battle.
To be honest, I'm not sure how the US can hope to win this one. The NKs have a minor win before really advancing very far, and the US doesn't have the firepower to push them back. Alternate scoring might be required to balance this out.

It's a short little ditty that pits 5 Allied tanks and a leader/squad/mortar team against an unrush of Chinese troops. If the Chinese can get some hits on the Allied tanks, that's all she wrote. If the Allies can manage to keep the Chinese at bay and not lose more than a tank, it's a tough road for the enemy. I lost two tanks in one turn to a pinned Chinese bazooka team and that pretty much ended any hopes I had to winning the game. Paul did a nice job of recovering from losing both leaders at the southern approach to flank my men and go after the objective, taking out a lead tank and pinning my infantry. Wasn't even close. |

This one offers the Finns a bunch of avenues to the objectives.
I decided pretty much early on that a frontal attack up the road would be suicide. We were playing a mirror, so I knew where the Finns initial setup, mines and barricades were.
Opting to go around the wire with in behind the initial objective worked well, as did sending several trucks with infantry after the 40 point objective. I should have added some armor to support that attack better.
Eventually I overwhelmed the Russians with armor and infantry to take the first objective, then hit the one on the road from the front with infantry and from the flank with tanks and more infanty. I was making in-roads on the 40 pointer when we called it a game.

As the Russians you have to make some pretty hard choices early on. You've got a lot of objectives to protect and the enemy has some armored support as well as strong mobility. I got in a lucky shot in turn one to put a hurting on a stacked motorcycle platoon, but that's pretty much where my luck ran out. Paul used his armor as a battering ram against my poor Russian infantry, taking two objectives, then doing the same thing on the 40pt one up the road. I thought I was keeping his infantry in check, hurting them as they exposed themselves, but his armor was too much to contend with. |

Fun but it seemed to favor the Americans pretty heavily. Surround the communists and beat 'em into submission with superior firepower. Then assault and take objectives. I though I was in trouble early on when I lost 3 helos, but I ended up with just over 40 points and there were essentially no communist troops left. Had I lost one more helo, the major would have been impossible.
