In the second of a mirror set, I managed a draw. In this one, I thought I was going to do better. I think I could have - had I used my Human Waves better. I wasted one in the fight for the heights.

We had a good time in a pair of mirrored games. I thought there was no way I was going to come away with anything more than a draw as the French. I think Paul may have ground himself down allowing me to make a come back. I did manage to get 11 men out the escape hex and we held the road and the heights.

I played as the Americans. The scenario started out with all of my forces appearing with in the 1st 4-5 turns. Once I surrounded 2/3's of the city, I was forced to start my attack earlier than planned due to enemy cavalry units spotting my forces. The British were very quickly outnumbered and did not have any defensive options other than to give up ground until it is too late to do anything. The British surrendered after 11 turns.
Rob comments: Poor. Well below average.
Apparently, this is the most lopsided scenario for this game. At the CCC website, their records of completed games (here: http://www.wargame.ch/1776/1776%20Scenario%20Data.html) show that, out of 24 games played, 22 of them ended in a major win for the Colonial side. No other scenarios listed show that kind of lopsidedness.
This might be an OK scenario to practice against a Colonial AI, but forget about PBEM.
I surrendered after 11 of 18 turns, giving my opponent a minor win. |
