Re: Newbie Giveaway! Free Set of BattleSchool BattleDice.

    1. I played Squad Leader years ago, but never made the switch to ASL. Then about a year ago a fellow on BGG emailed me asking if I would look over his trade list and see if we could work out a trade on a couple of my games he wanted. He had the starter kits-----well on to #2

    2. I received the kits and set them aside until a cold and miserable few weeks in January of this year. Read the rules, pushed some counters, then answered a game request on this forum.

    3. I like this game for the community it has. So many people are willing to play and help out. I have already met some very nice individuals via vassal and hope to meet more at some game cons/tournaments. Mostly though the game is just down right fun to play, to see the great tactics and not so great tactics dashed and rewarded when you roll those dice.

Re: Newbie Giveaway! Free Set of BattleSchool BattleDice.

Hi All: I'm new to this forum, discovered it surfing BGG ASL threads.
    1. I can't recall how I first found SL. Saw it on a shelf of a book store I think, way back when. Bought it and all the modules. Played intently through college...a little too intently, hehe. Then naturally made the progression to ASL..and of course moved on to all the modules. Then, got married, and kids, had to get a real job, go back to college (cause I played too much SL the first time). Actually fell into miniatures gaming quite heavily when I did have the time. WWII in 28 mm. Within the past 2 years have moved back to board gaming in a big way but was leary of returning to ASL (sold the collection on ebay for hundreds of dollars...back before MMP picked up the rights) because of cost. Now am eagerly awaiting the arrival of ASLSK 1 & 2 which I purchased through MMP's Black Wednesday sale!
    2. Years ago. Many many years.
    3. Love tacitical games...MMP's Grand Tactical series is my current obsession The Devils Cauldron. ASL is a return to the game that gave me a great deal of enjoyment, fun, fellowship (cause all my college buddies played too!)

    1. What and/or who got you interested in ASL?

I started tcatical gaming with Combat Commander and kept hearing that ASL was THE tactical game. I really wanted to play online as I was living in West Africa at the time (West Africa: a whole bunch of war but very few wargamers) so I got bought ASLSK1 to be able to find VASL opponents.

    2. When you started playing?
    fall of 2008

    3. What you like most about the game?
The tension and the vast rules (after movibng on to full rules). I love trying to decide when to shoot with Def 1st Fire; trying to figure out what my opponent is going to do and when to thwart his attempts. The number of rules, even in SK, and the plethora of DRMs require constant calulation as to the best moves to make.

I've described ASL as being like Chess with guns...

Re: Newbie Giveaway! Free Set of BattleSchool BattleDice.

Thanks for telling us a little about your ASL experiences and what you like about ASL. The quality of the answers was high, and we got a mix of new and returning players. Welcome/welcome back to everyone.

Given that this is the Starter Kit sub-forum, we opted to determine the winner at random. For those not in the know, this is not the same thing as Random Selection.

We assigned each contestant a different coloured precision die (dark-red, light-blue, green, amber, saffron, etc.). For kicks, we gave the "cat" a white die. In any case, on the first roll, two dice came up fives, with the remaining seven being four or less. So we rolled the dark-blue (Chuck D) and white (Sparafucil3) dice again. Both came up twos! So we rolled again...

...and the dark-blue die came up one, and the white a four!

This would seem to support Sparafucil3's contention that his dice "suck," namely that they tend to roll high.

At any rate, the cat already has a set of BattleDice, and he isn't really that new to ASL--despite what some may say about his level of play.

So the grand-prize winner is ChuckD. Congratulations Chuck! You have won a set of four precision BattleSchool dice (green/blue/two white).

But that's not all. As a thank you to everyone who entered the contest, we are offering each of you a free pair of precision BattleSchool dice (blue/white or green/white). All we need is your mailing addresses and we will get the dice into the post pronto for you.

    Thanks again everyone!

I second the praise for giving the other entrants a pair of dice. You are showing the true generosity of the ASL comunity.

    Props to you
