    The Monster Grows!

For those of you familiar with this game it is daunting to some how big it is, well its going to get bigger as a "Master Edition" of world in flames is in the works. Enlarging the map to make the whole world ( except the america's ) on the european map scale 50 miles a hex, and breaking down the counters into divisions instead of corps for the western powers and into corps instead of armies for the Russians, Chinese, and Japanese. As Well as other small but welcome changes to the system, like a revised oil depency rules, 2 build cycles for all units not just naval units, Attack and defense factors for units, etc.

Agreed..... when is too much too much

Recently, I decided to give WiF a serious try and came to the conclusion I would do WiF 5th Ed, simply because I cannot fit the maps for FE for both theaters on the gaming table.

I am in the middle of reading the rules as we speak. I'll be doing WiF 5th with PiF and SiF as I like ships and planes

    Peace

I would agree with your approach start slow and small and if you enjoy it work your way up, some of the expansions add more to the flavor to the game than others.
Ive been playing various versions since 1988' and appreciate everything that has been added to make up the current version, but over time some of the added material has been phased out or modified for whatever reasons. The real weakness as many players will admit is the naval sytem of the game (being very abstract or gamey not unlike alot of strategic level WW2 game though). But the overall feel of WiFlames is great, its second only to the great ASL on my list of games. And it being a strategic team game it gives a break from the head to head tactic level action some play soo much of.
