I haven't used a screen saver in years, mostly because they annoy me. However, contrary to what you read, LCD monitors can experience a form of burn in.Well, flat-screen LCD monitors don't burn in, so if you still have flying toasters or an endlessly looping slide show of your adorable niece and nephew, you're behind the times. When you're not sitting in front of your monitor it should be off off off.
I have a ViewSonic VP2330wb that has all my Windows icons from the desktop burned in. If I turn it off for several days, the icons gradually fade away but then come back after several days of use.
LCD monitors don't get burn in like CRT monitors do, but they aren't completely immune to something similar.

I did'nt that about LCD monitors. I stopped using a screensaver on my crt and just had the monitor shut off after a certain amount of time. On my lcd, if I know that I'm going to be afk for a long while, I just turn it off. But I do enjoy the animated backgrounds with vista, sort of a screensaver!
I do have a couple of annoying pink pixels on my LCD monitor - that have been there almost since I bought it. I just ignore it, bit I take it that is a physical defect with the hardware rather than a symptom of overuse?
no screensaver here either
just turn off monitor or place pc into standby

Thanks for the reply; I was hoping this was "normal". I don't even notice it as it is only one or two. Still, a bit of an annoyance after making the leap to the "latest and greatest" a couple years ago after so many years of CRT, to find out that it is less than perfect, but still an improvement...
With the advent of non-interlaced monitors, screensavers became obsolete. Haven't had one in years, rarely turn off my monitor, and I purchased the monitor used from Boeing Surplus so I can only imagine the number of hours on it. No burn in yet.
If you can't be a good example, be a glaring warning.
Same here, my LG LCD WS monitor is still in perfect condition. It's almost 3 years already, never turned it off when in standby mode yet the display is still crisp and vivid.
I have never experienced this burn in.
Last time I saw the sun was a year ago.
I haven't seen any burn in on my LCD either, but I've got 2 minutes for the screen saver, then 5 minutes for the power save mode; if for some reason I don't turn the monitor off directly when I've locked the PC. (Kids are more likely to break something than my monitor is of getting a burn in...)
The IIFT is broken at its core.
Trying to squeeze results in between IFT columns fails because the 2D6 results have no halves, thirds, quarters or sixths to make it truly "Incremental".
