Anyone NOT take the Tigers in 'Setting The Stage?'

Just getting ready to play J53 'Setting The Stage' this week and I was wondering whether anyone has ever not taken the Tiger element when playing as the Germans in this?

For those who haven't seen this its a scenario where both sides get to choose the significant parts of their OB. As your armour element you can choose either:-

    2PzIIIL & 2x Stug III

    or

    3x PzIVH & an 8-1 AL

or 2x PzVIE and a9-1 AL

Given that the Russkies can only field 45LL At guns and KV tanks armed with 76L, but also given that the VC involve exit VP... I'd still take the Tigers every time. No ordnance Smoke and only two guns vs as many as four, but comparative invulnerability. If you were to take the PzIV a rate happy AT gun could see them all off in one fire phase.

During one of the first playtests of this one, Tim Wilson totally destroyed Mark Nixon's Russians by eschewing the Tigers in favor of the smoke-making Stugs and Mk IVs. By the time Timbo made his move for the edge, Mark couldn't see a darn thing.

Seems kind of dicey-but remember, as SS the Germans have their smoke depletion #s increased by one.

Haven't seen any one try it since, but few can match Timbo's big-as-the-Wyoming-sky cajones.

With their expected offense, stout defense and excellent pitching, one would think the Tigers a lock...but then there's always those unexpected gremlins, aren't there?
    Help! Help! I'm being repressed!

If you have elite forces, do Tigers get a +2 for depletion numbers (for being a Tiger, and for the elite status)? Or just +1?

I'll be playing this in VASL League, and had pretty much decided on the Tigers, too.

    .
    +1 for elite status only.

What do you base the fact that it is a Tiger it gets a +1 for depletion? I've never seen that anywhere in my travels in the ASLRB. Anything that affects the depletion numbers for being a Tiger would be reflected on the depletion numbers printed on the Tiger counters?

The only increase is for Elite Status.

Pete, seems funny to see Mark Nixon get smoked so bad he lost. He was the one that taught most of us what a powerful offensive (and defensive) weapon it could be.

Me, too! Seems he's was right about all that stuff.
