Battles Of WWII Destined To Become Legendary

Just a while back I was asking which WWII battles people thought were legendary. It was pointed out, and rightly so, that for a battle to be truly considered legendary it needs to stand the test of TIME.
Battles we remember today may easily pass in obscurity in the future.

In 250 years time (the year 2257) or more, which WWII battles do you think will still be remembered? Will have passed into popular culture and be everyday references? Like Waterloo, Trafalger, Austerlitz, and all the other truly famous battles from the past. (which, funnily enough, I can't remember right now. But a quick jog of the 'ol memory would bring them back to mind).

I'm sorry if you feel this question is Off Topic but I feel it is relevent to ASL and ASL battles because the truly famous battles add to the mystique of the game and the playing.

It's just a game, but it's expressive of warfare.

To me, much of the joy in ASL is experiencing something other than the "truly famous battles." I don't ever need to play another Kursk or Stalingrad scenario again. But Odessa 1941? Now that interests me. Wuhan 1938? Quite fascinating.

One thing I've noticed is that although most of the really famous battles have been covered a lot in ASL, some of them are pretty neglected.
The official scenario list does leave out the following famous battles:
Iwo Jima - no official scenarios (thats one thing I'm pleased with CH about, for filling in the gaps).
D-Day Beach Landings - One official scenario.
    Berlin - Two official scenarios?

Off course MMP/Avalon Hill can't do everything, but I would have thought these epic battles would have attracted more attention.

Unfortunately the three battles mentioned above are three of the most interest to me, so I have to rely on TPP for the goods to be delivered.

It's just a game, but it's expressive of warfare.

At the top in no particular order would have to be:
    Midway
    D Day
    Stalingrad
    Britain
Those were the momentum changers, of course not all ASL playable.

Other battles less famous and would probably not stand the test of time but are ASL'able would be Cassino, Iwo, Tobruk, and Alamein. Singapore and the Phillipine's may be too one sided for the value but may produce interesting campaigns.
Most overated battle: Market Garden...although it is a great battle to game and play.

I think the particularly vicious battles like Stalingrad and Iwo Jima will be remembered, just for the TYPE of warfare that was involved.
But also the great tactically desicive battles like Kursk, El Alamein, Battle Of Britain, Midway.
Then there is the battles that started the aggression; Pearl Harbour, Barbarossa, Blitzkreig (PTO, East Front, West Front respectively).
The battles that ended the war; Hiroshima/Nagasaki (like Glennbo said) and Berlin.
Of course the Allied invasion of occupied France; D-Day.
The Bulge and Market Garden are very famous today and maybe their fame will live on.
There may be a few others; Cassino? but not many.

It's just a game, but it's expressive of warfare.

I would go with Stalingrad (though interestingly, this one probably is not as well known in the West by the "average" person), D-Day, and Pearl Harbor. That's about it, if you are talking 250 years from now.

In spite of my North-American upbringing and what I was taught in history classes, I sincerely doubt that D-Day as a single battle will survive the 250-year test on a global scale. Not in the way that Stalingrad, Kursk and Hiroshima/Nagasaki will, at any rate.

D-Day: largest amphibious landing in history, American troops in Europe to stay-outside of Italy of course-, the beginning of the Soviet/US rush to control as much of Europe as possible.

I don't know, maybe it will be considered a watershed in 200 years. Maybe not.

Technically Hiroshima was not a battle but an event (for lack of a better word) that was more of "what events in time changed the world" as opposed to a great battle in time. D Day should last much like the Battle of Hastings has withstood time. Pearl harbor is another one that may not make a list of famous battles but famous events in history, because lets face it, not much of a battle.
