Sen. Joe Lieberman's recent loss in the Connecticut primary has put the third party / independent issue back in the forefront...
Does a McCain-Lieberman (or vice-versa) ticket have traction???

Can't see me voting for Lieberman. I was not fond of him as a Vice President, or even in the primaries, I can't see that his new status would change that. I would have difficulties voting for Sen. Clinton--I don't like the way she and Sen. Kerry have played their positions on the war in Iraq. Some of the Republicans listed don't seem so bad, but given my distaste for the current administrations chioces, I would have a difficult time voting Republican for quite a while.
Thus, I suppose--other? Maybe Feingold, paired with most. Edwards, for some reason I am willing to give him a benifit of vote to war? Perhaps Gore--he seems to have found a voice? Vilsack? Daschle? as dark horses......Green party or Libertarian party--likely considering I doubt my Dem's will nominate someone who matches my thoughts.
Ok, I have answered. What about "The Doctor"s opinion.

Switch the Clinton -Warner ticket, and you've got a winner, IMO. Hilary adds more to a ticket as VP than she takes away, so put her with any moderate governor-type (Warner, Vilsack) and it'll draw.

Speaking as a Democrat, I could vote for McCain, whom I generally like and respect. He's a reasonable alternative to the extreme right-wing wacko element in the Republican party.
Joe Lieberman, however, can kiss my a**![]()
My guess for candidates will be:
Jack vs. Jill.
Jack is tired of being the "fall guy" and "exposes" the seedier side of Jill....![]()

I would seriously consider Warner were Rhodam-Clinton not on the ticket. Hillary frankly scares the be-jeepers out me. I have never been a fan of MCain. I am not familiar with the rest (outside of former VA governor George Allen). I have not switched to Presidential election mode yet since it is too far out to start considering serious contenders for this upcoming election. Whoever it is, I hope he is a clone of Reagan. That would please me greatly. -- jim
What is it about Lieberman? He votes about 85% to 90% with the Democratic leadership in the Senate. Is it his support for the President on Iraq? McCain is every bit as hawkish on Iraq and the GWoT.
The funny thing about Lieberman’s primary loss…He had the support of the Democratic leadership, including Bill Clinton, and the radical left opposed him, including Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Yet it was the upper class “Fairfield County” Democrats who voted against him. The blue collar Democrats voted for him…![]()

I tried to pick one of the poll options, but I just couldn't do it.
If those are my choices in 2008, I guess the ol' M1 Garand and I will be heading to the hills.
I'll be voting for whomever the libertarians put up as I have in the last 2 presidential elections.
Now I am no political analyst but what I have seen since President Bush was first elected was both parties lean further to their respective sides. The Democrats are more left and in turn the Republicans move right. If the Dems had more of a centrist candidate, they could very well swing the vote of the moderates. Instead they seem to be shooting themselves in the foot with all the fighting amongst themselves and the constant criticizing of the current administration.
Another issue I have is that people automatically associate liberal with Democrat and conservative with Republican. I think it was Don Maddox who brought up in another thread, the fact that the two parties are not polar opposites. Nor should they be.
I am slightly conservative but tend to try to be more of a moderate. Neither parties really represent what I am looking for in a president but you typically have to choose the lesser of two evils.
