A cross between John Tiller's War over Vietnam, and the Battles from the Bulge engine. Where you have realtime ground and airforces (maybe naval as well). In a hypothetical cold war turned hot Europe. That would make an awesome game.

Dunno about those games but check out Wargame: European Escalation for your Cold War gone hot game.

Good Tunes
I don't have a modern computer to run it. European Escalation looks like a dime arcade compared to DCS: Combined Arms. If i had the hardware i would be playing the latter.
Those games i was refering to are 2-D overview. Thought it would be great to have ground and airforces (don't see why naval would be a problem) on the same map. Say at regiment or brigade/squadron/taskforce level. In realtime at 50km per grid square. It could be massive and cpu intensive but even my old 2004 compaq would be able to run smaller scenarios.
command modern air/naval operations does look very cool. now if they added a dynamic land force layer i'd be all over it. i'd figure to keep it simple the player would be JSOC level giving commands to brigades, squadrons, and taskforces while the computer did the constant attack and manuevering.
