What we really need is Samurai vs. the Zerg. That could be a great game.

Funny you should say that. As I recall from SC2, the Protoss Zealots do look a little like Ninja's. lol
Scott, in response to your Game of Thrones comment, every time you start getting puritanical it makes me want to watch reruns of Dana Carvey doing the Church Lady on SNL. lol But seriously, I think the only GoT scene I can think of that I really could have done without was the gay chest shaving scene. As I recall I was eating while watching it, and it made me want to hurl!
Anyway, I'm happy to say that between Secret World and Neverwinter, I don't think I'm going to miss Heart of the Swarm at all. Hope you Blizzard drones have fun with it though.![]()

Scott, have you posted a HOTS review yet? Gamespot gave it an 8. They loved the gameplay (even if they admit it doesn't move the RTS genre forward much, if at all), but loathed Kerrigan and the story:
"Unfortunately, while the campaign is a blast, much of Heart of the Swarm's writing ranges from cliched, to mediocre, to comically bad. The single biggest disappointment is the depiction of Kerrigan. In the original games, when she was the self-described "queen bitch of the universe," Sarah Kerrigan was a great villain. She played the victim card to manipulate others into paving her way to complete dominion over the Zerg swarm. Once that was done, she mercilessly obliterated those useful idiots and mocked their grieving comrades. The old Kerrigan was manipulative, power-hungry, ruthless, and totally unapologetic about it. She had character. The new Kerrigan is boring, and her actions are often incomprehensible."
I couldn't have said it better myself. I would also add that the old Kerrigan was hilarious at times, whereas the new one plays it straight. Gamespot also noted that the writing in HOTS makes the old Starcraft/Brood War story seem like Shakespeare! lol

Nah, I really haven't had any interest in the expansion at the moment. But what you quoted above is pretty much what I expected. You were right to call WoL's campaign as corny and campy, so I expected more of the same.
Burke's Joystick: Because Edmund Burke would have been a gamer!
Corny and campy? You are being far too kind Scott. The words that come to mind when I think of the WoL writing are pretentious, dreadful, cliched, racist, juvenile, and totally uninspired. But seriously, I was sort of holding out a very small glimmer of hope that things would improve with HOTS and that I would come back to the Starcraft fold, but alas, I see that it's not to be.

So is it worth getting or not? Does it add anything worthwhile to Starcraft skirmishes, which is mostly what I'm interested in anyway.

I dunno Don, I thought the SC skirmishes could be fun, but without some kind of larger context to put them in other than proving that you're the baddest kid on the block, to me they seemed pretty pointless. The MMO Star Ruler has the same problem at the moment, though I've read that they're working on a large EVE-like sandbox where corporations fight for sectors. That would be cool.
