Sowchos 79 is one of my all time favorites from waaay back in the Cross of Iron days.

Love the loads of units and lots of room to manouver, has a little of everything- armor battles in the open and in the streets, ambushing a convoy, infantry street fighting, OBA.

Agreed! Played Sowchos 79 recently, lots of fun but the Russians just get crushed in that one.

    Hi,

    I've played U-14, 15, 16, 29, 32, and am 9 turns done in U-28.

All scenarios have been fun to play (and U-16 should be noted as a very ideal scenario to introduce someone to night rules).

But I have to say that U-28 (Sowchos 79) is an absolute classic. Hill 621 has got nothing on this scenario.....

Haven't played ANY of these yet, but Bukrin Bridgehead has a cool OB (Some German guns you just never see,) Plus I have some interest in this campaign, and am doing some scenarios on it myself.

So it is top of my playlist from this pack, with Winterr Melee a close second.

This is another I had fun soloing back in the day. I don't remember the SSR being quite so complicated back then though.

I remember this one mostly for the quad Flakvierling 38 which I was very keen to see in action, naturally enough. Sadly I also remember that its performance was very lacklustre that day.

Re: Best scenario in 'Turning the Tide' scenario pack?

I had a blast playing U14 Sacrifice of Polish Armor last year. Just a great early war battle with lots of decisions and movement and the build up to the final assault on the victory buildings. The level 2 hills dominate the battlefield and in our playing, both sides used them to their advantage, the Poles early and the Germans late. This one went down to the final half turn and could have gone either way. I played some of the CoI ones back in the late 80's but haven't revisited them yet My vote goes to U14.

    Sorry to resurrect this one..

Where does the love for Sowchos 79 come from? In my playing for this the ambushed convoy played its part perfectly (was ambushed and completely ineffective) and the battle was almost over from the first few turns.

I understand it was a good SL scenario - so maybe it played differently then, but I know I'm not the only one who didn't like the newest version of it.

Maybe a lot of it has to do with nostalgia for the SL version?
