Hi all, I'm returning to ASL and need to start over. Started in the 70s, haven't played since late 80s, and gave everything to a game shop before a move in the late 90s. I've been on the MMP website and I see a huge array of choices (modules?). Yet, I think I understand I only need the ASL rule book (2nd edition) and starter kit #4? Am I right? Or, should I be including starter kits 1-3? Help, I'm pinned down and taking hits!

What do I need to have the best, most current updates to the ASL rules? What do I need (modules?) to include boards, troops, and AFVs from the Eastern and Western fronts? And, I used to love the SL/ASL articles from The General(?); what are the must have works these days for strategy and tactics?

Thanks and regards.

A non-vehicular Gun with no ROF capability (ie... no ROF # in a box on front of counter) changes CA to fire. It gets one shot and then is marked by Intensive Fire counter.

Is the one shot treated as Intensive Fire (+2 To Hit, B# reduced by 2, etc) or does placement of the IF counter after the shot just serve as a reminder that the Gun can not fire any more that turn?

Couple of questions on DC vs AFVs

Q1: Does a DC require a TH DR against an AFV? Looks to me if the Infantry unit survives (unpinned/unbroken) the placement MF, then DC is placed and will attack AFV in AFPh.

Q2: If the DC Position DR is 9-11 (meaning only CE Crew is attacked), chart says to make new effects DR which I take to mean on the IFT using 30 FP column. Do all regular IFT modifiers apply to this new DR? IE... CX, leadership, etc?

Q3: If the DC Position DR => 12 (meaning only unarmored units in the target hex are attacked via Area Fire from DC [15 FP, FRD to 12 FP column]); is a new DR made on the IFT using the 12 FP column or is the Position DR of 12+ used on IFT? Do regular IFT modifers apply to this attack?

Thanks

Does a FT have to roll for TH if it is targeting an AFV? or is it an "auto hit" and then you go straight to HE & Flame TK table?

I was thinking it would use the VTT (3.2.4) because it "must pre-designate the AFV as the target" (4.2); but when I look at the To Hit Modifer chart and To Hit chart, I don't see FT listed.

Can't believe I have to ask this question, but I have overloaded by already befuddled mind..... Was putting an ASLSK players aid together when I did a complete brain dump on Subsequent Fire Fire and MGs.... I compounded my confusion by refering to my ASL RB and then back to the SK EP1 RB and then back to ASL RB, etc.... my wife is right, I am a moron.... my apologies in advance.

Q: When is the MG considered to be using SFF and thus Sustained Fire?

EX 1: 4-4-7 and MMG hanging out smoking and joking when, during the enemy's MPh, a 4-6-7 pops into their LOS by entering a woods hex; the MMG fires at the 4-6-7, loses rate (thus getting marked with First Fire), and then elects to fire on the 2nd MF expenditure. To me, firing on the 2nd MF while already being marked with First Fire counter is SSF and Sustained Fire penalties apply. Once the SSF shot is taken, it is marked with Final Fire; but the 4-4-7 remains unmarked by any fire counter.

Did I get EX 1 right?

EX 2: Same scenario as above, but this time the 4-4-7 fires on the 4-6-7 on the 1st MF expenditure in the woods and is marked with a First Fire counter; no fire counter on the MMG.

Here's where my logic goes "fuzzy".... I say....

A) The MMG no longer has the option to fire on the 4-6-7 by itself (regardless of 1st or 2nd MF expenditure) cause that would violate Mandatory FG.

B) So the 4-4-7 can fire on the 4-6-7's 2nd MF in the woods in either one of two ways:

B1) As area fire by itself; thus forfeiting using of the MMG unless a FPF situation occurs; both the 4-4-7 and MMG are marked Final Fire after the shot.
OR
B2) As area fire with the MMG which is also considered to be using area fire and Sustained Fire penalties apply; both the 4-4-7 and MMG are marked Final Fire after the shot.
Are B1 and B2 correct?

Again, my thanks in advance,

Oh let me count the ways..... Actually, this thread is an off-shoot of a thread in the ASL Rules section. I have been thinking of it in SK terms, so wanted to post here to see if I have identified all the possible ways an SMC can "buy" the farm in SK or whether I am overlooking any.

Boot Hill for SMC in ASLSK:
1) KIA: Unbroken or broken leader receives a KIA as an IFT result.
2) Casualty Reduction -- Mortal Wound: a broken leader fails a MC; then subsequent dr for Wound Severity is a 5 or 6 (4, 5, or 6 if previously wounded due to +1 drm)
3) Rout Failure: a broken leader that is unable to fulfill RtPh requirements
4) Blue Falconed: an unbroken leader who is routing with a broken MMC that is interdicted; the MMC fails its Interdiction MC.
5) Rally Fate: a broken leader attempting to Rally, rolls an original 12 which causes Casualty Reduction -- see #2 above.
6) Battle Fate: a broken leader rolling an original 12 on a MC check resulting from an enemy attack.

Please let me know if I am missing any methods.

Thanks -- SSTK

A friend and I played S48 tonight. A small number of American elites counter-attack against 12 Italian squads with 8 AFVs. The victory conditions are that the Italians win if they occupy at least 1 building hex.

I have no idea how the Americans could win. With 2 BAZ and an AT gun and a 10-3 leader, I still don't see how they can dispatch enough AFVs to make a counter-assault -- especially when the Italians just need to occupy one hex.

Now, if the VC were that Italians need to occupy one building for every AFV lost, that might make sense. Or if the Italians needed to occupy 1 building hex inside the American setup area, that would also be sensible. There must be errata on this -- or else we both just misread the VCs.

In the end, it didn't matter much. Malfed my AT and a BAZ in the first turn then eliminated the AT on the first repair attempt. This was followed by a bunch of box-cars.
