ok playing RB CG game and have moved an AFV adjacent to a mol-p sw and crew which takes a shot at the motion AFV and hits it.

What is the correct TK 6 or 4?

O10.41 says MOL-P attack is exactly like a MOL attack and refers to A22.612. It goes on to say that the only mods to the TK# are +1OT, +1CE, and doubling for CH

however

A22.612 says the MOL TK# is reduced by 2 vs a motion AFV

After moving across the country this summer, I finally opened up a box that I had stashed in a closet, and dusted off my old copy of 5th Fleet. I opened it up figuring I'd recruit a friend to try it out (I hadn't played in over a decade), only to find it missing the instruction manual.

Then I remembered that I loaned out the manual that decade ago, and never got it back from the guy. So, learning that A) I should never loan out rulebooks to mere aquaintences, and B) I need to play my old wargames more often, I gotta ask--with AH being sold to Hasbro, does anyone know of a way to obtain a copy of the rules? Can I buy/download 'em somewhere?

Thanks
Rob

For you tech types LUA Scripting is now in the game.

In the Expansion we get: {for now only 3 due to time constraints}

•Quickslots - Allows for the creation and customization of additional quickslots.
•Player self-vitals - Exposes effect information as well as health and morale for only yourself – party member and target vitals did not make it in for this release due to time constraints and will be addressed in a future update.
•Inventory - Allows for custom organization of your inventory. For example, creating a single-bag view of your character inventory.

Future LUA Plans:

•Vault UI
•Mouse cursors
•Chat window customization
•Kinship UI

There will not be allowed in game:
(such as “bot-ing” or “macro-ing”). There will not be a way to execute skills or use items through Lua scripts. We also do not allow the simulation of mouse-clicks in any way.

Any tech guys have any comments on this LUA business- is it good, bad or makes-no-difference for the game?

http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdia...-lua-scripting

Edit- Is it me or are they cramming a lot of stuff into this "minor" expansion?

A Japanese unit wishes to create a THH after assault moving into a new hex.
All other considerations for the creation of a THH are met.
Is the THH subject to the limitations of the assault move since the unit it was created from could not have moved further?
I would point out that if I assault move and go berserk then I charge from that point having spent only the MFs of the ass move.
A THH is sort of like a berserk charge but an SMC creatd from a unit shares the same stauts (Prep fire fanatic etc) of the creating unit. Would the THH share the same assault move limit to movement as the creating unit?

Can the open ground portion of a Jungle/Stream or Jungle Road hex be illuminated by a Starshell/IR at night?

Pertinent rules:

G2.3: "Neither starshells nor IR can Illuminate the non-Aerial portion of a jungle hex [EXC: they can Illuminate the Bypass area of light jungle hexes in which E1.941 does not apply]"

B3.3: "However, if a unit moves into a hex via the road rate it would be subject to Interdiction/FFMO (in the case of Infantry) instead of the TEM of the other terrain in the hex unless the LOS was traced through other non-Open Ground terrain between the firer and target points. "

B33.13: "a unit IN a stream (including dry stream)- woods/brush/orchard hex is in Open Ground if the LOS INTO that hex emanates from within, or lies within the stream depiction (20.2) as it enters, that hex."

So essentially Starshells do not Illuminate jungle except bypass areas (i.e. the open ground). Roads are considered open ground with the right LOS. Ditto for streams.

So logically if Starshells illuminate OG in bypass, why not OG in the road or stream? But rules wise there seems to be no support for that logic - any differing opinions or insights that would allow a jungle stream to be illuminated? Should I be bothered by this oddity? Or does the Jungle Canopy grow in such depth over the Road/Stream that no Starshell light is ever let in?

Thanks for any thoughts...

As Roy Bartoo and I have worked through our series of night scenarios, with hopefully more to come next week, there's been one subject where we just can't work out what the rules intend, and that's the section on Lax/Normal/Stealthy (E1.6), how it interacts with the Chapter A rules on Lax and Stealthy, and what it means when a night scenario defines the Majority Squad Type for one or more sides.

Imagine a scenario where the Russian Scenario Defender has a force of 8 x 4-4-7, 10 x 4-2-6, and a couple leaders. As typical for a night scenario, an SSR states that "... the Majority Squad Type of the Russians is Lax."

Now assume that a Russian Good Order leader and Good Order 4-4-7 advance into CC. What are the Ambush modifiers?

And most importantly, on what rules are you basing your conclusion? This may seem like a very straightforward question... but watch out. :devious:

John

If you have a wounded captured leader how far can the guard move?
Is it limited to 3MF of the wounded leader or because of the note noting the captured leader, the leader magically disappears?
[Edit: The original question also asked about Runways and VotG Plazas, but I just discovered that Tom and Perry were already discussing the VotG question as far back as May.

A14.2 says:

Quote:

Prior to the start of play, each player (DEFENDER first) places one friendly Sniper Counter in an unoccupied hex within six hexes of >/= six enemy-occupied (including enemy "?", but excluding the enemy Sniper Counter) hexes if possible.

In a recent game, I was the DEFENDER, but partway through the game I rolled a '2' and chose to reposition my sniper. The place I wanted to reposition my Sniper Counter to happened to be the same hex that the other guy's Sniper Counter was in. My opponent nixed this on the basis that the hex was already "occupied", by his Sniper Counter.

At the time I went along with it because there were other hexes nearby I could use, but we agreed to ask about it here.

My opponent's reasoning was that by the standard colloquial English usage of "occupied", the hex had a counter in it already. I have no idea whether he would have applied the same reasoning if the counter had been, say, a non-HIP Wire counter or something, rather than his Sniper Counter.

My reasoning is that the Sniper Counter is not a unit, so it doesn't really mean much to say it "occupies" the hex.

I do note that the parenthesized part of the rule describes "occupied" as "including enemy '?', but excluding the enemy Sniper Counter", and some would say that proves my case. But there's no reason to assume that was supposed to be applied as a definition of "occupied" across the whole rulebook -- or even to the first part of the rule. So, I don't put any weight behind that argument.

So, what say you all? At scenario start, can the ATTACKER place his Sniper Counter on top of the DEFENDER's Sniper Counter, if he so chooses? Can someone repositioning his sniper put it on the other guy's Sniper Counter?

The expansion will offer more multi-output type crafting items for Weaponsmiths & Woodworkers.

However don't craft anything "good" now, wait until it goes live as may items are getting an nice upgrade:

"It is important to note that no existing crafted weapons have been changed. If you are using or storing any crafted weapons, they will remain exactly the same as before. Only newly-crafted weapons will have the updated stats."

Which means all those "highend" items (using expensive crit items!!) I've already made for my alts will be under-powered next to their expansion twins.

Plus there will now be more crafting quests for:

"Farmer, Forester, and Prospector Profession Quests

We’ve added new profession quests for the Farmer, Forester, and Prospector professions. Adding these quests brings more consistency amongst all craft professions. It allows us more opportunities to provide important information to crafters, such as new resources and facility locations."

Potions have also been given a boost: {Just great, I've already spent a ton of "crit ingredients" and have stacks of the Crit levels potions stored up, which will now be under-powered as well.} :(

"Updates to Crafted Athelas Essence and Celebrant Salve Potions

We’ve updated the effects for all crafted Athelas Essence and Celebrant Salve potions. In general, we have increased the amount of morale/power received when using a crafted potion, while slightly increasing the variance. See the following chart for more details:

Name Level Effect
Lesser Athelas Essence 1 100 - 150 Morale
Simple Athelas Essence 15 200 - 300 Morale
Greater Athelas Essence 25 300 - 400 Morale
Refined Athelas Essence 35 400 - 500 Morale
Distilled Athelas Essence 45 500 - 600 Morale
Infused Athelas Essence 51 600 - 750 Morale
Pure Athelas Essence 58 750 - 900 Morale
Potent Athelas Essence 60 900 - 1000 Morale
Steeped Athelas Essence 65 1100 - 1200 Morale

Lesser Celebrant Salve 1 100 - 150 Power
Simple Celebrant Salve 15 200 - 250 Power
Greater Celebrant Salve 25 300 - 350 Power
Refined Celebrant Salve 35 400 - 450 Power
Distilled Celebrant Salve 45 500 - 550 Power
Infused Celebrant Salve 51 600 - 650 Power
Pure Celebrant Salve 58 700 - 800 Power
Potent Celebrant Salve 60 800 - 900 Power
Steeped Celebrant Salve 65 900 - 1000 Power"

All in all good news I just wish they would upgrade all the items I already have stored up! :p

A man has taken a whole bunch of hostages at the Discovery Channel and is demanding a policy of human sterilization and an end to "parasitic human infants." According to Mr. Lee, "more humans equals more war," therefore population control is the only acceptable long-term solution to global warming and pollution. Hmmm.

You can read his manifesto here.
I especially like point No. 4, the part about "exposing human civilization for the filth that it is."
As rage-filled rants go, this is as good as anything I've seen on the forums. Let's just hope somebody is able to subdue this poor man before he hurts someone.

I thought this might warrant it's own thread. In another one I brought up the subject that CMSF soldiers are all deaf and wondered about a sign language Mod. It was then pointed out to me that they are ply deaf until they can see something and then they can hear it.

I have been playing around with the game over the holidays and have engineered situations where soldiers can't hear vehicles over the next berm, even if they are firing.

Does anyone know if this feature is still in there for CMN? This could mean for some challenging Bocage scenarios and more importantly some decidedly gamey tactics. If using the limitations of a game engine can be called gamey that is.

I do think that half of the effort and knowledge put into playing wargames is learning the game mechanics.

How do you use this feature, or will you use it to your advantage?

The topic of Glen Beck got me thinking about this.

I am told (often at this forum), that main stream media is largely liberal. I'm not sure I see it, but for the sake of this question let's go with this. I will say that it seems to me that media will often cater to its consumer, a bit of a negative when it comes to news, but I'm not sure this is anything new.
Anyway, the science of advertising also follows the listeners. I will observe that if left/liberal mainstream advertisements are to their audience, it comes across mainstream consumerism. On the other hand, right wing radio tends to play a different type of audience. Glenn Beck for instance has (or had) advertisments/endorsements for Food Insurance (something which I really question, because if the **** hits the fan, I doubt such a company will continue to function), Seed insuance, and Goldline. (The concept of buying inflated gold coins, rather than something like a gold stock, or GLD ETF seems to me out a bit far out, but it must have a real market given the sponsorship---and if enough people fall in this line of thought it becomes self fufilling).

Right-wing radio also seems to have alot of commercials about evading/reducing the tax they owe to the government. Is their a greater percentage of right wing types who don't pay their payroll taxes (and in my opinion shirk their duty) or other types of tax. Or is it just related to philosophy? Something else?

Anyway, what does this say about the listening public? Or the hosts who often mix their information they ask one to digest with the endorsements of product lines (and the idea of some to call themselves ditto heads)? Does it say something about their specific audience, verse that of the main stream media? Is it reflective of just fact that it is a smaller segment, smaller market, and more like the late night TV scene--which I'm assuming would be mainstream media? Which panders to get rich quick ideas often from some home buying scheme.

Mike

After a month of successful campaigning, the combined German armies had pinned down the hosts of Imperial France in two places. One was blockaded...

After a month of successful campaigning, the combined German armies had pinned down the hosts of Imperial France in two places. One was blockaded around the fortress of Metz under the command of Marshal Bézaine, while the other, commanded by Marshal MacMahon and accompagnied by Emperor Napoléon III. himself, was lying at Sedan, a fortress near the Belgian frontier. The drive towards Metz had ended in the remaining imperial armies being surrounded by German troops from all sides, and after a day of vicious fighting, it became clear that there would be no escape from the cauldron around Sedan. Napoléon handed over his sword to King William of Prussia, and the war against Imperial France was at an end. However, the war with the new republican government would rage for several more months, ending with Paris surrendering after a long siege and many more French armies suffering defeat after defeat against the invaders.

With this victory, the Prussian goal of uniting Germany under one crown was achieved, and King William of Prussia was acclaimed as Emperor William I. in the palace of Versailles on January 17, 1871. In fact, the old empire was not resurrected, but the Northern German Confederation enlarged by the southern German states. The new empire filled a space that had been occupied by hundreds of little principalities and kingdoms for several centuries and proved to be a major change for the balance of power in Europe. This alone would not have been troublesome, but the thirst for revenge by France and the ambitious politics followed by William II. and others should hasten the outbreak of an all-out war in Europe, which might have been averted by wiser decisions in Berlin and elsewhere. The lost war and the mad hunger of the victors for revenge and compensation helped to push Germany into the arms of totalitarian dictatorship and eradicate the last vestiges of the old Europe for good in a new war, more terrible than any other up until now.

======

140 years now... quite some time, and quite some change.

Hi guys,

I think I know the answer, since a unit is considered to spend all his MF's to place a DC in the 'Placement hex'. Here's the question. If there is OBA in the target hex, would that effect the placing unit at all? I don't think so, but maybe I'm missing something. Did a search on DC placement and didn't see this come up in any of those discussions.

I have both the Distant Guns and Jutland Demo on my computer and enjoy them both. I'm going to purchase the Mega Pack for one computer. Question I have is am I given 2 different activation numbers or 1?
I thinking 2 different ones since it's 2 different games. Correct?
Trying to AVOID any possible or unforeseen technical issue hence a post in this forum. TIA
