I have been playing Midway with the update and have had no problems. I do have a question though. What type of odds are depth charges given to damage submarines? I have swarmed an area (where a sub is located) with destroyers and dropped tons of depth charges all over just to have the sub appear again and continue to fire on my ships. It is a major task to keep subs away while the planes rearm and refuel to go after the US ships. I have been able to sink a couple of US carriers and mess up the land-based targets on Midway Island, but I have yet to even damage a US sub with depth charges from my destroyers. All of the other game mechanics seem reasonable and work very well. Depth charges are either too low odds to even do damage or you have to truly master the technic of blanketing the area with DCs.

Are you confident you are dropping the charges properly? I've had many a sub sunk while playing as the US, but haven't tried to do the same as the Jap. If you continue to have an issue send me a game file to Support@hpssims.com and I will check into it.

Yes. I have been dropping the depth charges and seeing the black dot. I finally sunk a sub with depth charges. I think the issue is the AI running the US subs kept bringing them up and submerging them and moving at a pretty fast pace and I was lucky to be going over top of one when they were at periscope depth and dropped about 4 or 5 charges on them. It requires a lot of concentration on that area to do this while the rest of the battle is going on. If you don't pause the action, you will not be able to manage the battle and fend off subs. I know ships select targets within range and fire automatically and attack aircraft are given missions and attack automatically. These can be manually overridden by the player. Aircraft can even be given a mission to attack subs automatically (even though the sub continues to submerge and reemerge). Why can't ships with depth charges be programmed a patrol mission to automatically attack submarines as they are detected (similar to what patrol mission does for CAP against air attacks)? This would require grouping ships of the same type (such as destroyers) not unlike grouping DBs or TBs for a mission. It would allow for automated protection of the surface formations from subs. Just a thought. I have resported to loading aircraft for ASW and searching close to the ship formations to loiter around subs.
