Verdun in the French defensive strategy was a fortified area, with fortress like Vaux see previous posts
but there was too prepared and fortified artillery positions like the one I post here



The picture under shows the entry of the Battery laboratory (preparation and test of ammunitions


Theses caves are the barracks for the gunners, but the destructions are due to German guns direct hits


Here under, the inside of the rest room and at the bottom the water tank. Remember that thirst was the worst torture for the soldiers in the trenches


Here it is a fire place, imagine a gun firing there without trees, with German schrapnel flying all around
