  1. Visiting Bag End

I've been in a hard fantasy mood lately. Don't know why it is hitting me in the middle of summer as medieval fantasy gaming is usually something I save for Fall. Why? For me, when I think of the Dark Ages / Medieval periods of history - and when it comes to gaming, I find most fantasy titles to mix the two periods together - I also think of a time of figurative twilight, when everything is in decline and long dormant monsters begin to stir to the dirge of creeping despair. With that ...

I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but here goes (deep breath): I can’t get enough of World of Warcraft!

There. It’s out. I feel better already.

This is the second time Blizzard made a fool out of me. First, I went around dissing Starcraft II…only to fall in love with it after trying the “starter edition”. And now Blizzard has hooked me with the “starter edition” of World of Warcraft (first 20 levels free!). Shortly after this announcement, ICG’s popular online ...
  4. It's Bitter Sweet.

I'm sure by now most if not all have heard of the announcement that Star Wars Galaxies will officially be shutting down come December 15th. When I read the announcement this morning before work I was hit with two emotions - sadness and relief. Everyone at some point had to know this day would come see as how a new Star Wars MMO is just around the corner, but it didn't make the announcement any less surprising. At least for myself.

The closure of SWG is bitter sweet for me. On one hand I have wanted the game to fail and go away for a very long time. But on the other I have always ...

Well, I finally finished the book and here is what I think:

If you would ask me what I like most about EvE Online, I would say its seafaring aspects. Even though it might deal with spaceships, at its heart it is a game that has far more in common with The Old Man and the Sea than it does with Star Wars. EvE is all about the lone captain and his craft, out to score a big fish in a very large, very dangerous stellar ocean. Unfortunately, Tony Gonzales’ EVE: The Empyrean Age ultimately fails to capture that essence for more than a
