Saw this last night on Blu-ray. Count me in the group that loves Alien and thought this was a half-baked story that simply doesn't fare well when compared to the original. Now by no means is Prometheus a terrible film, even with all its shortcomings. But Alien rightly occupies a hallowed place in sci-fi/horror, so the expectations for this film were very high.
Let's get this part out of the way up front: The movie's pacing and character development were very poor, which is surprising because that's generally one of Scott's strengths
"How many people had I already killed? There were those six that I knew about for sure. Close enough to blow their last breath in my face...." - Captain Willard, Apocalypse Now
Yeah, you are probably already thinking that this is gonna being an Apocalypse Now-themed entry. Not really (hint: it's actually gonna be a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3-themed entry!). It's just that I spent the weekend watching that classic war movie and realized I'd forgotten
Day Four--"BALL PEEN HAMMER OF THE GODS" (20/21 Oct 1942)
It's not unusual for a big game to become unbalanced despite the intention of the designers. I've seen it in a lot of games. PWG's Korsun Pocket rulebook asked that players report to the designer how the games turned out...the designer hadn't even bothered to playtest it to the end and otherwise didn't have clue about the balance. Having played several RB CGs, one thing became obvious: a Soviet Attack can be devastating. It forces the German player to setup first, and then the Soviets can pick out the weak areas to utilize concentrated attacks. The German player rarely spends points on defense, and without mines and such to worry about the Russian player can simply forge ahead. A well-time Soviet attack can send the German player reeling backwards, so with all of that in mind, I choose an Attack chit. The German's ELR is down to 3, so I'm guessing that Field Marshal Marsholio will
When this movie was first announced early last year, I was excited. In a world overrun with movies about ninjas, samurai and kung fu fighting, there are just far too few movies about the iconic knights of medieval Europe. It really is a shocking turn of events. I mean, as a kid I grew up with lots of books, movies (John Boorman’s classic Excalibur was my favorite…even though I had no business watching it at that age) and even cartoons that dealt with medieval themes – not to mention the ‘80s phenomenon of Dungeons & Dragons. How things change
