    Shells hole, and trees
    This village and 8 others have been declared Dead for France, and it has been decided to plant trees
    but you will always see the shells holes, even after one century.
    From June to August 1916 the village changed hands 16 time

  2. Verdun : Inside the Fort de Vaux

    My first stop in this pilgrimage was for the Fort de Vaux.
    During the Verdun Battle the assault against the fort occured from June 1st up June 7th

    Let's havea look inside the fort, the quality of this picture is not perfect but it gives you the reality of the inside of the fort, moisty, dark cold, during the battle there was odors of powder, gas, death and other ones!!!

    10. MY SHARE OF TRUTH ON CAUSE OF THE DEFEAT

    My very dear readers, I do not have the whole truth, but I do try to acquire a part of it. Here are, in my opinion, the structural causes of the French defeat.

    10.1. Lack of Communication

    Based on their experience in WWI, the French HQ of 1940 relied heavily on phones rather than radio; this was known as the Brun network. The French HQ believed the radio would offer information to the German Abwehr. While this may be true on strategic level, it was a dramatic error on the tactical level.
