I never knew you could put a price on a season, but clearly you can.

This has been one of the most remarkable summers ever. So far, the New York region has endured five 90 degree plus heat waves, with a sixth heat wave underway as I write this! As I’ve written before, this is highly unusual for Long Island. If we get one – maybe two – heat waves during the course of the summer, it is remarkable. Heck, last summer never even heated up until the last week of July, and even then it didn’t break 90 degrees once. And, of course, it was all

  3. A Decisive Sacrifice that Breaks All Resistance!

When Fritz say’s something as cool as the title of this entry, you’ve just got to immortalize it in a blog posting.

The following game involved a contest between me and a new opponent. Such first-time outings usually prove to be interesting as neither side really knows what to expect from the other. Such was the case here in which the advantage slid from side to side during the entire battle. I won the opening, lost the middle game, but rallied for a victory in the endgame.

Just a quick note before my PC suffers a ‘China Syndrome’ event and melts down to a goopy pile of slag: my presence on the Ansible network may be unpredictable this week. You see, the Northeast is suffering from a record heat wave right out of that classic Twilight Zone episode, The Midnight Sun. Over the last three days we have been in the upper 90’s, with today establishing the dubious record of breaking into the TRIPLE DIGITS! To put this in perspective, last year Long Island never broke 90 degrees once…so yeah, this is proving to be quite a surprise.

  5. My Review of Avatar

If I were to pick a scene from James Cameron’s much lauded Avatar that I felt best summarized the entire movie, it would be from the end of the film where the security forces were attacking the Na’vi “Home Tree”. Recall it? Well, my favorite part was the scene where one of the alien horsey creatures was running around all in flames. Not only was that hilarious, it was also greatly symbolic of this CGI sinkhole of a film. Like a horse on fire, Avatar is a torturous spectacle.

    Yeah…I didn’t care for it.

Oh sure, the CGI was excellent, but unlike the scores of professional ...
