All things related to PC gaming.

  1. My gaming time is more precious to me now

There was a time when I played virtually every game I could get my greedy little paws on. Sims, shooters, RTS, RPG, action, and even the occasional flight sim -- I played them all! But somewhere along the line I starting spending less time gaming and more time doing other things. Burn the heretic.

I could use the old "real life got in the way" excuse, but in truth that would be a lie because I could be gaming more if I want. The truth is that I simply find today's game less compelling than those from previous years for a variety of reasons. Oh sure, there are still a few ...

  2. Some random interesting stuff

Okay, some of this stuff is just weird, but if you're reading this blog then you're probably used to that. If not, get the hell out of here while you still can.

Remember City 17? Of course you do. But this time it has zombies. You know, the walking dead that eat you and make a nasty mess when you shoot 'em in the head with a shotgun? Yes, these crazy guys have made a Left 4 Dead 2 add-on based on the classic episode from Half-Life 2. Check it out here.

Supreme Commander 2 patched. The latest patch fixes some AI issues and addresses some other annoying issues. Of course, ...
  3. Publishers are seeking to control everything these days, even us

I don't support Blizzard on this at all.

I don't like the idea of giving players access to map editors, scenario editors, and mod tools, but then gimping the programs so that the only way they will work is if the files are uploaded to official servers. Publishers already hold almost all the cards, but this gives them 100 percent control ...
  4. Pirates will even steal free games!

To back up what I wrote earlier in this thread, here's an excellent example of exactly what I was talking about. Bluenews is reporting on the ongoing pirating situation with the Humble Indie Bundle. For those that aren't familiar, this is a games bundle from Humble that can be downloaded 100 percent free of any DRM of any kind. The only thing that Humble asks is that gamers contribute at least 1 penny (1 US cent), so gamers are free to contribute as much or as little as they want. Humble has said they are not interested in DRM and don't want to inconvenience legitimate customers.

  5. Have the last few years been good for new games?

I'm curious how people rate the last few years in terms of how many good new games came out. Gaming has good years and bad years, just like anything else, and we've seen both good games and bad during this period. So how do rate the last few years?

Personally, 2008-2010 has most definitely been one of the worst periods I've experienced in all the years I've been gaming. I play games of nearly every genre -- almost anyway -- and there are always 5-10 new games on the horizon that I'm eagerly awaiting. In addition, each year I end up playing some games I wasn't waiting for, but which ...
