Political news and hot issues from the games scene.

  1. ESRB out of control -- threatens game sites and publishers

In a fit of nanny state paternalism sure to put a grin on the face of big government elitists everywhere, GamePolitics.com is reporting the ESRB has forced the removal of Fallout 3 game trailers from all sites. Bethesda's VP sent an e-mail notifying all sites to remove the trailers "immediately." The removal was forced by ESRB officials according to Edge Online and GamePolitics.com.

Not content with this vulgar display of bureaucratic tomfoolery, the ESRB then decided it had the authority to regulate third party content made by gamers and game sites, independent of the ...

  2. EA: Forum ban equals game ban

EA is apparently fed up with people acting like idiots on the official EA forums and has plans to hit these gamers where it hurts--by banning them.

Your forum account will be directly tied to your Master EA Account, so if we ban you on the forums, you would be banned from the game as well since the login process is the same. Ordinarily, I tend to look at articles without proper attribution with a very skeptical eye, as the Internet teems with frauds looking to do a quick and dirty hit piece and grab headlines. However, this article has an intro from Dan "Shoe" Hsu where he vouches for the anonymous author and says he is who he claims to be. That's interesting. Hsu then goes on to ...

  4. My pet peeve is that game reviewers are lazy

An interesting article has surfaced over at ShackNews (thanks ShackNews) in which AIAS president Josesp Olin is quoted as stating that game journalism's current problem is that game journalists are lazy. Indeed.

  5. No Need for Exclusive Reviews

Game sites and magazines often via with one another to secure deals for exclusive content of various sorts, previews of upcoming titles being the most obvious. Exclusive sets of screenshots and movie trailers are also pretty common. But what about exclusive reviews?

Unfortunately, some game publishers are beginning to warm to the idea of exclusive reviews. Now game journalists are no different than any other type of journalist, in that we all want to be the first to land a big story. Nothing surprising about that. And it's also understandable that publishers release exclusive content ...
