View Full Version : brilliant CMBB AI
Hi there.
I've just tried CMBB, the first scenario Iv started was the 'Death Ride of the 424', I had to set up an ambush and kill some King Tigers. After placing my units I sat tight and waited for the onslaught. And this is the result of letting the AI storm my position: The first KT drove into the city... saw my IS-2 waiting in ambush position, started rotating his gun and got tosted. A few turns later a second KT drove into the city... saw my IS-2 waiting in ambush position, started rotating his gun and got tosted. A few turns later a third .....

and what did the other KTs ?? drove up and down in front of the city for 20 turns and 4 managed to get immobile thereby

Well yes... brilliant indeed, I sure wasn't expecting _this_ strategy :D
Guess CMBB is PBEM only ? :D

You are quite right. AI of CMBB is just as dumb as PO in TOAW.
yes, I know that I cant expect a genius like AI that invents new tank battle strategies that will revolutionize the way wars are fought but I thought it would be at least clever enough to move its units forward.
In my second battle I had to defend against a soviet tank onslaught but 18 T34-85 (some are hiding behind the trees) decided that it would be a lot nicer to have a little beach party :D

Haha! Apparently the CM programmers need better number crunching algorithms. If you consider the evolution of commercial chess programs, they are now almost consistently as strong as grand masters, but when they started out they had trouble beating patzers. When CM AI becomes equally impressive we'll be relieved to play humans with all of their flaws :clown:
Would that mean the pentagon would start using such AI to fight it's wars? Almost sounds like a 'terminator' scenario :D

It looks like you are having some kind of bug with your game/computer. :surprise:

It's probably that an AMD is running my WinXP and not an Intel :D
Some of the soviet tanks did manage to advance and turn some of my Panthers into clumps of metal so I assume my game is OK (latest patch 1.01) but pathfinding is obviously not the brightest part of the AI.

I must admit that in any scenarios I have played against the AI it has not done anything as bad as that! ( Beach Party shot)......however I did play one as the Soviets defending the road to Sevastopol where the German advance was very sluggish and they took a lot of casualties, more so than if a human player had been conducting the advance. Eventually thay did take some Victory locations. It was'nt that much of a challenge really. I think against the AI it's best to let it play the defending side.

Or maybe not. FE, AI troops will most likely abandon their foxholes/trenches and rush towards the attacker, even if it means they get stuck in their own barbed wire/minefields... :whlchr:
