Does everyone have this type of behavior with this version of VASL?

[version 1.1.5 server, version 4.0.5 module]

1) moving partial stacks does not work, you can select each unit you want to move, but when you move them, only one comes along.

2) LOS thread. When using the OVHS board, which does not support LOS checking, no thread is even displayed. Is this the way it was designed? Last night it even displayed a transparent box the size of a unit, and moved that around, but no thread.

3) difficult placement of new counters. We have noticed that when dragging a new counter from the counter window to the map they usually do not display if you drag them to a stack of pieces. You have to place them in an empty hex, then move them to the stack. Maybe it is just our perception.

With that said, VASL 4 is very playable, although we both resorted to non-router connections in order to play on the backup server. I would recommend you do not convert a VASL 3 file - we did and have basically replaced all concealed units in VASL 4 as the conversion loses them (they are there, but they are not there problems).

For #3, just drop the new counter in the middle of the HEX (not the top of the stack) and it will be deposited on top of the stack.

For #1 - I'm not sure how older version of VASL behaved but what you say is true. I just bring the moving counters out one by one, build a second stack in the start hex and start the move.

We have had all these problems as well, with the same versions, but using the BRV map.
Last night we finally declared it unplayable and have reinstalled the only old copy of VASL4 and VASSAL that we had.
LOS thread and selective stack moving now works again using VASSAL 4.0.2 and VASL4 1.0

Al-

Try turning off LOS checking in prefs, or turning off/on other options there. Had same problem and was able to get a thread, but of course with no LOS logic.

ok, for #2, I turned off the LOS checking preference and now get the old black LOS thread with the range labeled! Thank You Bruce.

For #1, still a problem, but I assume rodney is working on it as best he can given his time constraints.

For #3, I have attempted to place the counters in the middle of the hex and it seems to work, maybe I was just moving my mouse too quickly or something. VASL 3 did not seem to be so discriminating.

Another issue I have seen - the VASSAL site indicated JAVA 1.4 is the recommended version to use. I use version 1.3.7. I downloaded 1.4.2 in the hopes that it would fix the problems I had with 1.4.1, but to no avail. I am using win98se and it just hoses the display completely when using java 1.4.x. Steve was using 1.4.1 on XP with no problems. I have no clue if there is some incompatibility problem with 1.4.x and the older windows OS, or if it is some issue with my old video card, etc.

Over the weekend we had many problems seeing each other, even though both of us took the routers out of our connection and direct connected to our cable modems. We could not sync long enough to actually play. Very strange as we had been using these versions to play just the previous weekend. Very frustrating as well. I sent rodney the error log, but he usually gives me a quick response so I believe work has raised it's nasty reality and he does not have the time to pursue most of these issues at this time.
