View Full Version : ASL Play Aids
Okay, Comrades and Comradettes, get ready to Double Time yerself over to Desperation Morale Central (http://www.sff.net/people/pitman/asl.htm) to see the latest ASL playing aids to rock and shock the ASL world!!
Sniper Cards. http://www.sff.net/people/pitman/asl/snipers.pdf. This play aid consists of 6 small cards, one for each SAN number. Each one contains your SAN number on the front, and pertinent sniper rule information on the back. The perfect table companion to make sure you never forget a sniper! Can you say "colorful graphics?" I knew you could!
ASL Setup Sheets. http://www.sff.net/people/pitman/asl/aslsetup.pdf. This play aid contains a setup sheet that lets you record HIP units and all sorts of other pertinent game information. Tired of writing on scraps of paper? Write on this custom designed sheet! This sheet can just be printed out, but it is designed to be taken to a print shop, which can make it into note pads for you (or to Kinko's, which can spiral bind it so you can have a record of all your games!).

Don't seem to work from here, but head over to the main index and they work from the links thereon

Pretty things, the sniper cards, too. Not looked at the setup sheets (not my cup of tea).
Both of the original links include periods at the end.
Try these...

There must have been some problem with the way it made things into URLs.
To sum up, lots of cool stuff at:

Enjoy!
(suggestions always welcomed for new play aid ideas!)
I've posted a new ASL play aid to my website. It's a "Germans" play aid that collects all sorts of German-specific information and charts, from panzerfausts to sN to Sz to ATMM to extreme winter rules. It is particularly suitable for beginner, novice, and journeyman players.
You can find it (and LOTS of other free ASL goodies) at http://www.sff.net/people/pitman/asl/asl.htm.
I wasn't sure if this would be useful or not, so let me know if it is.
Keep them coming Mark, I really do find most of these useful.
By the way, don't put the period at the end of the weblink. That's what keeps the direct link from working. Here is a corrected one for those not able to connect:

Hey Mark-
Yer play aids are looking very good, but no mention of frigid streams in the cold weather chart.....
Keep up the good work.
Bru
Hehe, I learned the hard way about frigid streams.
A voice of reason set me straight.

FYI, my ASL play aids website now has a domain name:
http://www.desperationmorale.com
Please change your bookmarks accordingly.
As always, looking for suggestions for future projects.
I've finished completing the "new look" for my ASL play aids website, www.desperationmorale.com
Let me know what you think.
Also, I will be adding a links page that concentrates on OTHER websites with ASL play aids.
Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?
Airpower play aid -- air power man---
As you are fond of pointing out, Ron, I'm a newbie. I don't know if I feel comfortable enough yet with the air rules to design a play aid.

Yep, you are a newbie--that's why you should do it! We old guys carried the load for years, its your turn, and then we can kvetch when ya blow the rules...

Hey Mark,
I'd like to see player aids for the other HASLs, like KGP.
Jim
Jim, more of those are definitely planned.
Nevermind found my stupidity.

Mark,
How about a cheat sheet for caves, I find this area difficult to deal with sometimes. :(
Caves are something I've been thinking about, but there are so many rules, and that makes it a difficult subject.
I have found the IFT play aid on the DM website very helpful. It lets me keep the hardstock cards with the IFT table available for it's other tables. But, I've decided to venture over to the dark side and start using the IIFT (I've just become too irratated at having my 2 or 3 stack 4 strength infanty counters having no damn good use for a LMG). If you could do the same play aid as the one with the IFT but with the IIFT table it would be appreciated.
Otherwise just keep up the good work on all your player aid/cheat cards. They are really well done and I've liked using them.
I'm sorry, but I am firmly in the anti-IIFT camp, so I won't be doing any IIFT playaids.
(there are some around the web, though, if I recall correctly)
Mr Pitman,
Great playaids sir, but is there any chance of getting a landscape version of the Setup chart? I typically need to record more hexes than there is room at the moment. I need as many hex record rows as you can squeeze in?
Couldn't you just use two sheets??

Yeah, no biggy. Just made more sense the other way to me :?
There are two new ASL play aids available for free download at www.desperationmorale.com. One is on Sewer Movement and the other is on Demolition Charges.
Nice play aids, I especially liked how the sewer movement notes included the variations for other modules such as B:RV. Gives it a feeling of being very comprehensive. Good subject for a play aid too.
One idea to improve the site would be a "What's new button showing the latest Play aids posted. There are soo many there now it can be hard finding a particular one... which is a good problem to have.
I know I should do that, but it's always a pain to keep a "what's new" section going. One thing I *do* have, though, is the "dated added" for each play aid. So you can simply scroll through the play aids, looking at the bottom of each category, until a recent date catches your eye.
There must have been some problem with the way it made things into URLs.

Hi,
would you see anything wrong with a Ch K continuation in the form of Ch F and Ch G (perhaps from the German/ Japanese point of view for a bit of variety /cultural equality)
dont work
The post you quote is almost ten years old. Try http://www.desperationmorale.com/playaids.html.

Not a "shelf life", rather a website "lives or dies" when the money is paid/not paid.
I think Mark upgraded to the Desperation Morale website around 2005.
