Hi all,

I'm new to the series, but I recently picked up SAW and have just tried out a couple of scenarios. It's been great fun so far, but one thing that has happened in two scenarios though is that I've had helicopters simply vanish after some turns. They aren't shot down as there's no wreckage and they don't show up as "vehicles lost" in the victory report. Is that by design (e.g. they leave to refuel) or is something strange happening? Thanks in advance.

In all SB games, men and vehicles can be scheduled to withdraw. In the case of the Hinds, it probably simulates needing to refuel and the like. There is a pulldown tab for "Units", look under "Withdrawls". This can also be used to see when reinforcements arrive, when "Fixed" units will be allowed to move and the like....

Yes, always check reinforcement arriving and troops withdrawing at the beginning of a scenario.

Also, the command report at beginning of each turn should indicate, "This scenario has withdrawls" or something to that effect!

Ditto what these guys said, and welcome to the forums!!

In SAW scenarios many helicopters have withdraw orders. Hinds never lingered on the battlefield too long. They just made a run and disengage. When you open a scenario its command report will indicate that there are withdrawals in the scenario.

It could be worse-first time I played I missed it too-it was either TOD or VN. Lost two platoons of troops cause I was keeping them for a 'mobile reserve' to drop in when I was ready. I was ready one turn too late.

 Ah I did nearly the same in SAW. Had it tucked away ready to ambush the Muj. Then it disappeared. Thought it was the engine but I shouldn't have blamed the tools :)

Thanks for the replies everyone. That was indeed the issue.

FastPhil, that's pretty much what happened to me as well. I was playing the Amin scenario and had my helicopters waiting to swoop in once I had located Amin. The next thing I know, they're gone, taking their Spetznatz passengers with them. Suffice it to say, I took a beating in that scenario. :OHNO:
