View Full Version : Not Credited With Sinking Carriers!

Defending Iwo Jima as the Japanese I sank all 4 or 5 American carriers using my coastal artillery. American planes disappeared from the skies!
After the game I checked American inventory and replacements and found out no carriers had been lost.
That's unfair. I'm so mad, I'm going to decapitate a watermelon using my Samurai sword.
Then they weren't destroyed, just damaged. Back into the replacement pool!

Am I the only person bothered by the carriers AC always dieing when it's sunk? IMO if there's a base in range there should at least be a chance for some of them to be airborn and able to reach it before running out of gas.
No.
Also, if there's a base in range, they should almost all get away safely, everytime. Do you always keep your air on the CVs? In most circumstances, the CVs are close enough to land that I generally base my air on land instead of the CVs as a general rule. It's only in very unique and rare circumstances that I've got the CVs fully laden...

Thier excape isn't a given. In a surprise attack most of them could be caught on/below decks, or they could use up too much of thier fueldog fighting with the attackers to be able to make it to shore.
an no I don't base AC off of carriers when I don't have to.

I still don't get it. After my shells hit the carriers I got "carier x evaporates" messages in every case, I was paying attention very closely. The target disappeared, clearly indicating a sinking.

No that indicated the unit took enough losses to no longer be considered operational.Just because a unit evaporates doesn't mean everyone was killed or captured or all equipment was destroyed.

Think of it this way,you made swiss cheese outta those carriers and they had to be withdrawn for repairs.

I don't get the rationale behind that. Let's assume that the carrier is close enough to airbases that range isn't a factor. The offensive factor is the same regardless. The D factor will have the AC get involved for certain (on CVs), where based on land, they have to make the interception check. But weighed against the fact that if the CV sinks, you lose all the air, and secondly, if you're in a position where your opponent is nailing you, you're more than likely in trouble anyways, I don't understand why you take the chance.
The only option I can see is if you're based with the rest of your navy, and you're trying to make the stack as nasty as possible. But in most cases, navies are kept safe unless you're doing something with them at the time, and that would come under the exceptions I mentioned.
