View Full Version : What is your favourite sport?

For those of you who follow and/or play sports, what are some of your favourite? Also, what are some of your favourite sports teams/individuals?

As some of you might predict, the number one sport for me is ice hockey. I grew up playing street hockey, and have followed the NHL extremely closely since I was 10. Being born and raised in Vancouver, the Vancouver Canucks are my favourite pro team. It's hard to describe what hockey means to many of us in Canada, but it is a great shame/embarrasment if we lose in international competition (Olympics, World Cup/Canada Cup, World Championships, etc.). I don't know if there are any other nations that have national social debates about a sport if they have dissapointing results (it happens here). I also play casual ice hockey, and in Canada we call this Beer league hockey :D

I also follow Formula One, and have hardly missed a race since 1996. Unfourtunately, because of the time difference the European races start at 0400-0500 in my time zone. While they also show these races on tape delay, I usually have to spend my sunday avoiding internet and tv sports updates so I don't accidentally find out the result (quite difficult actually) before the tape delay starts. When I first started watching F1, because I didn't know any better, I used to wake up at 0400 to watch the races live  My favourite teams (in order) are: Ferrari, Sauber, Jordan, and Renault/Benetton.

My next favourite, is the World Cup of Soccer. Since Canada rarely makes it to the world cup (except for the women's team), I usually end up cheering for Germany, because of my heritage.

I would definatly say soccer, what a suprise :D  I enjoy any soccer game at any time. As for a favorite team I like them all.;) :p
I also like American Football and my team is the Carolina Panthers.
I also like to watch Rugby but I rarely see it over here in the US

I don't know if I have a single favorite sport. It used to be golf, but I haven't really been into it much the last couple of years. I love baseball and am a big NY Yankees fan...being a former New Yorker and all. I'm also a big Dallas Cowboy Fan on the football side of things. Not sure how that happened.

To be honest though, my favorite sport to watch on TV is the Eco-Challenge adventure race. Now that's reality television.

Take care,
Brian

Colledge Football becuase they are still pumped full of for the glory of the school and havent figured out its just a job. I rarely watch the pros.

Most forms of Auto racing. Mainly NASCAR and endurance racing. I havent followed F1 in a few years. There is just too much disparity amongst the teams and too many team orders for my taste. And I can rember the getting up in the middle of the night thing to watch races. I guese that isnt as bad as watching all 24 hours of Le Mans.

Australian Rules Football

Carn the Dees!

edit: Martin I aslo follow F1, having made it to both the Sepang and Melbourne GPs this year. Fave Team is Williams, then BAR Honda, then Renault, though the money Toyota is throwing abot makes them exciting to watch in the future I think.

Be good to see Williams have a proper line up next year, with Webber and JV :D

Also in Football (soccer): in the Premier League I follow Arsenal, in the spanish League; Valencia, in the Bundesliga; Bayern Munich, and in the French League: St Etiennne, but they don;t do so well :D

hehe... my favorite, ... you guys probably do not even know it ... though it is a british game :) ... Badminton is my favorite. It is even less known to the world that the World Champion of Badminton (for example, All England Open) wins only $500. :p (well, that may explain why the sport iself is so little known :D )

My favorite sport star? .. there are many of them... but all time, all sport and only pick one... oh man, that must be MICHEAL JORDAN! He is the KING! :)

The path to glory lies not in hockey but in American Football, more specifically in Green Bay Packers! Let Favre return in all glory to Super Bowl in 2005!

My favourite sports are basketball and soccer, though I ma not that good in both of them... (maybe I should practice a little more and not just answer to this forums :D )

@ Martin Schenkel:
On your other question: Here in Germany we have great depates everytime the German Soccer Team looses game, which is quite often. Well, that's really because some do still expect the team to be as good as in the 1960s, but that is definately no more the case...

I played a lot Badminton when I was student, a very nice sport

As many Europeans, I appreciate Football (not the "for little girl" american football  , I like this kind of provocation :D)

I like a lot Rugby, especially when the French team win the great shelem and defeat England:p . I appeciate a lot the Australian team and more than all, the All Blacks (New Zealand)
The next World Championship will be played in France in 2007, hummmm

Not joking this time US people if you can see the charge of 120 Kg people against the holder of the ball it is incredible, because they wear no protection, no helmet, and the shock has the same intensity as the one of American football.:whlchr:

i used to play badminton in a club some years ago but i had to stop because of chess, nice sport too.
i recently went to a karting race ( i was invited for free :D ) and i can say it is really fun, i highly recommend this to all the fan of car sport, try to go there for free because otherwise it is so expensive .

Do not care for sports on TV (a contradiction in terms). Whenever I get the time, I step our for a two-hour jogging in the countryside : no cell phone, no internet, no colleagues, no boss, no family, ni dios ni rey - silence and sweat.
Probably the best time to think out TOAW turns http://www.warfarehq.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif...

I like soaring (flying saiplanes) although costs don't allow me to do it as often as visiting the gym. Eventually I would like to participate in air races but that will require access to a personal aicraft. Eventually when I begin making a decent buck I may think of shared ownerships with a bunch of other pilots.

I'm also a skiing fanatic in winter.

As a rule, I like individual sports (running, flying, working out, skiing) much better than loud team contest.

I like football. I think professional sport is killing my interest though. Not many sports can allow amateurish gentlemen's behaviour anymore. Money (prize money, advertising, player salaries) is eliminating the good sport in sport, making it an industry just like movies or whatever. Just look at the US and Canadian teams' behaviour in the recent hockey world championships. They are thugs, not sportsmen.

Hockey comes in number one ! I'm Canadian after all, we are the crowned champions of the world of this sport, that says it all.

Motor racing and American football comes a close second though.

Motor Racing (especially F1):

I have been going to the Montreal F1 Grand Prix 7 times out of the last 10 years and I was there last year. This year I am not going though, I AM FED UP WITH MICHAEL SCHUMACHER. Don't make a mistake about it, I don't dispute his great talent and incredible record, he's one of the Greats, but I am just tired of always seeing the same guy winning over and over again. This is choking the sport, we need a change of the guard fast.

Football (american, not soccer):

Last year was the first year I seriously followed football (we in Canada are lucky enough to get to see all the games as in the US). What a sport ! Immensely strategic, and I am especially thrill about the concept of clock management and the tactics and decisions that go with it. Also, the NFL is one of the best-run professional leagues in the world, and the economic model of this league makes sense (contrary to baseball and hockey where franchises are slowly dying). Just too bad there is only 16 games in a year ! I don't really have a fav team, although the closest team to Montreal are the Patriots, so I am usually favorable to them, but I also like the 49ers. Of course, I do also watch Canadian football, a slightly different variant of the American version (3 downs instead of 4, so you get much more passes).

However, I don't play hockey, nor football and I don't race (well, I do get a few speeding tickets on a regular basis, but that is bad behavior).

I personally ski (downhill skiing), rollerblade, and cycle.

Football world cup is the only sport I´m least bit interested. It´s once in 4 years, so there´s a certain dignity in it. Finland is never going to get there, but so what.

Well, generally I am on the move so early or late that I have always the time to think about it quitely. As I play SPMBT on relatively small maps, there are not such in TOAW ;) ,it is easy to memorize them and so I perplan my next moves detailed, expecting different enemy behaviour...

Where do you like to ski in the east? I went to Mt. Tremblant once, but found it quite icy, relative to what I'm used to out west. I used to ski Whistler/Blackcomb many times a year. Unfourtunately, where I live now, the closest decent ski hill is a 2 days drive away

Unfourtunately, where I live now, the closest decent ski hill is a 2 days drive away :cry:There are quite a few ski places in Quebec, but of course we are not talking about the Rockies here... Mt Tremblant and Mont Ste-Anne near Quebec City are the 2 largest mountains, but I only go at those 2 places once or twice every 2 years or so, there are a few hours drive away from Montreal. There is also a couple of good places on the US side in Vermont or New York, just 3 hours from Montreal such as Jay Peak. And they take the Canadian dollar at par with the US one, which is nice :)

Usually I will ski in smaller places: Bromont, Sutton and Orford in the Eastern Townships (southern side of the St.Lawrence River), and Mont Blanc, Morin Heights and Val St.Come in the Laurentians. They are quite small "mountains" though compared to any place in the Rockies.

Someday I plan to take a one or two week vacation at Whistler or some great place in the Rockies and get to enjoy real downhill skiing :D

Actually I am not that keen a fisherman, but both my brothers are and I enjoy being on a fishingtrip with the two of them. Fishing in Denmark is trouts and some salmon in freshwater and cod and herring and others on the coasts and from boats. Concerning the lack of pollution, I got really sick :kotz: three weeks ago after swimming in an put-and-take lake (retrieving floats and hooks for my brothers).
