If leaders are on top of stack does this make them more vulnerable to fire or melee combat?

This is almost a ASL or SL question--did you post in the wrong forum?

To answer the question--they are NOT.
BUT, if the stack is required to take a MC/PTC of some sort, the SMCs roll first, which in turn can help/hurt the MMCs in the hex (hows that for a lot of acronomyns? If you don't play ASL, you have no idea what I just typed...)

No, there's a certain pecentage set in the PDT file as to whether a leader will be killed, captured or wounded, and its placement in the stack doesn't effect this.

Using the "leaders on top" option from the menu or toolbar simply changes the display so thay you can find the hexes with your leaders in them more easily.

Hopefully between these two it answers your question.

Note, as opposed to the ACW games, the Nap and EAW games don't have "mounted/dismounted" status for leaders, so it's fairly simple. A leader takes fire, he may possibly get hit. I've seen Wellington taken down by a 14 hex cannon shot...

Boney's not a gentleman, as we all know! We've had alot of leader losses, so I was wondering.

The Napoleonic series doesnt have a Leaders on Top feature Rich.

You are thinking of the EAW series.

Would be nice if there was a No opportunity fire against Leaders , Optional Rule

There is a leaders on top toolbar button in Napoleonic games. It's the one with the star. Clicking it does not affect the position of the leader in the stack, it merely makes the leader star symbol appear on top for all stacks.

Heh, since I play the Nap, ACW and EAW engines, I get a bit confused at times, but in at least one of those, it's been rigged that leaders don't cause OpFire.

In any case, the workaround there is fairly simple. Either keep your leaders with the units as they move, or put your leaders 1-2 hexes back from the line, where they aren't at risk of fire in any case.

I find unescorted leaders behind the line have a nasty habit of attracting enemy breakthroughs.:upset:
