View Full Version : And the map making fun continues....... not exactly

I've managed to convert two BCT maps to ATF. However, I'm running into two problems. One minor, the other quite serious.
The minor bug appears to be tiling. As the image I uploaded indicated, it would appear engine forgot to add a tile. It's not a horrible issue. Just wondering if I might be messing up somewhere.
The second issue appears to deal with the converted .emp file. I can open the .emp file in the Power Tool Kit. However, if I save it to a map and try to open it I get this message. The .emp file might be okay, but the map file is messing up when you save. I'm not sure.
"An attempt was made to access an unnamed file past its end."
Any advice would be appreciated.

Additional Information:
1. If I save a map without the .emp, I can open it it.
2. I (created by me) opened up the .gmp file with an assigned .emp for the maps I tried to save, and found they were empty. Each .gmp file appears to be little more than an index of all the files needed to make up a map. I tried to simply add the info in with word pad, but that didn't work. I noted each .gmp file in ATF have little symbols that seem to help the engine recognize differences between maps.
Is there a way to simply edit the .gmp file so ATF will recognize it. If so, I believe it might solve the problem.

The BCT map import utility, as you have discovered, is broke (did I mention I was reluctant to add ANY map making to ATF?)...
You should be able to edit the game map by selecting "edit" from the "Map" menu, and entering all of the correct file names for the map components. Then select "Save" from the map menu and the game map file (.gmp) will save with the correct file names. The next time you open the .gmp file, it should open all of the correct files.

Sorry if the "reluctance" remark came off as crabby. I just anticipated a ton of problems with the map making utility before I started (irregular DEM formats, file name issues, etc.) and my worst fears all seem to have come to fruition.
I HATE BUGS :(

Yeah, you have "I told you so" rights. Looking at the files, the issue appears to be with the .emp. It has a very long name when generated C:/ProSim Data/------------. I'll continue to look at it from time to time. I'll turn my map making attention to the .xml and editing .bmp. :D

You might try cutting and pasting the file name from windows explorer and entering it into the elevation map entry in the "Edit Map" window manually.
Let me know how it turns out.

Unfortunately that didn't work either. :( I'll keep looking at it though. It's a minor setback. The database editor, along with the ability to assign new .bmps means that we can add variations. Plus there are also the xml files which could be made to simulate a number of locations. :D
