While the AI in this game is among the very best I've seen in a PC game, the decisions it makes in the campaign are a bit silly at times. I've noticed 2 things:

1) Using huge flotillas of unsupported TBs as patrols. When a Russian cruiser division meets this formation it's like a rabbit shoot. What is the AI strategy when it puts these patrols out?

2) Using the Mikasa squadron to chase commerce raiders. I have Varyag operating off Assan, Chelumpo and Tsushima and she is constantly meeting the 6 Japanese BBs with 4 ACs and 8 DDs attached. This great big lump of heavy metal proceeds to try and chase me at 17 or 18 knots. Varyag runs away and goes somewhere else and the next day the scenario is repeated. This has been going on now for days on end. Why does the AI use this main squadron to patrol against single ships? Can it not be programmed to 'notice' the number of encounters with single enemy cruisers and when this total versus encounters with squadrons reaches a certain level, split it's 4 or 6 ship cruiser divisions in half so it can cover more sea more economically? Why is Tojo chasing single cruisers at all, should the BB division not maintain patrols facing Port Arthur?

Just wanted some feedback please as this behaviour is denting the immersion of the campaign.

What I have seen in the campaign:
- Slow force (Chin Yen) attacking PA and getting slaughtered
- Japanese cruisers engaging a TF that just left PA. The japanese force was within range of shore batteries at the start of the battle and suffered damage. My force was faster and escaped without a scratch.
- In tactical battles the AI fails to detach fast ships to flee or chase - a very serious handicap

Good points saddletank!

It seems to me that the Japanese AI is not very keen in keeping the PA-force at bay.

Now, I have seen the AI detach slow ships and run.

To a point I can understand not wanting to detach fast forces to blindly chase after an enemy. I used to do this regularly until I sent my fast cruisers chasing after what looked like a small force of destroyers that turned and headed toward shore. I chased them, but then out from behind a small island came the main enemy battle line which immediately poured fire into the cruisers who didn't count on any real incoming fire. That cost me two cruisers, and has made me much more cautious about detaching light forces for any kind of pursuit duty. Even in the open ocean, if visibility isn't perfect, things can really sneak up on you.

Another note on the AI: It dosen't seem to know how to disengage at port-
I've gotten alot of ships that would've gotten away easily, but ran away from a protected friendly harbor.
