I give those ten battles, but of course there are many other possible choices, like Norway 40, Merkur, Sicily, Cassino… So don’t hesitate to choose them if you want.
It is the battle you prefer to play. you read all the book, buy all the wargames about it.
Personally I picked Ardennes 44.
In this battle I like the desperate attempt to reach the Meuse river, the material used by the Germans, their elite units. Another good thing about Ardennes game are the attempts made by the American player to delay the German columns, building strongpoint with what he has, and forming heterogeneous groups with some shermans, engineer units… It is a game against time for the two side. But in fact this battle is interesting to play until the Americans become too strong and can impose a terrific interdiction.

Crusader '41 is my favorite. Plenty of action every turn in a scenario that can go eitherway.

Also I like the way the fighting develops into a number of different battles.

Tobruk is one, esp. if the Axis go for an all out assault.

The battles to seize or hold Sidi Rezegh airfiled is another.

also the battle for the frontier outposts around Bardia etc. is also very good.

Your question is misleading LaPalice because ETO means European Theater of Operation (That is, the campaign for Northwest Europe 1944-45). Stop me if I'm wrong but Crusader 1941 or Kursk 1943 arent particularly "ETO" ;) :p , unless you meant something else.

Normandy 1944 - complexity of amphibious landings on a enemy occupied shore, establishing a secure lodgement for the buildup of forces, coping with the terrain and getting out of the deadlock (or preventing the enemy from doing so on the other side) make for a great game (above all in its 'Overlord 44' variant). It sums up many forms of (computerized) warfare : preemption, attrition, disruption and manoeuvre.
Also tickling is the fact that you get your hands on some of the best infantry and armoured units both sides offer.

Yes I mean European Theater of Operation, I thought that Russia and Desert was part of the ETO, sorry for the mistake.

No problem, ETO is an US Army acronym. The three theaters of operations of the amercans during WWII were named European Theater of Operations (ETO: France, Belgium, Germany...), Mediteraneean Theater of Operations (MTO: North Africa and Italy) and Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO)

Ok, thanks for the info.
I thought that ETO was simply the opposite of PTO.

Huh? :hmmm: I think you're discussing the theatres, but I don't get your sign off...

Perhaps it'd make more sense if I ask:

En Anglais, s'il vous plaît?

My vote is for Market-Garden 44.

They're all great, but I picked Kursk, due to my mood. Sometimes you just really get off on the huge armor battles... Sometimes it's a taste for a huge amphib invasion... Well, I haven't done any big tank clashed in ages, so Kursk it is!

Hard to pick a favorite. Depends on the scenario I guess.

I choice MG because of the contantly swapping offensive/defensive aspects all in one battle. Germans attacking in the north & defending/attacking in the South, with the Allies attacking & defending in both the north & south!

Which one is a hard choice :hmmm: I think that I have to go with Normandie. If your talking about just D-Day. It was the largest amphibious assualt that the world had seen. :ar15: And considering all the variables it turn out okay. I have to respect all the planning that went in to this operation.
From the generals in hq to the soliders who got samples of the ground of the beachs and yes even the French resistance played a part.
And don't forget all the Americans, Canadians, Brits and even French who gave there lives that day. We owe them alot :)

I find strange that there is not more choice of the Ardennes. I thought it was a campaign which interested a lot the Americans.

Normandy...in one of his books William Manchester laments about the fact that the Army does one amphibious assault and every one goes crazy over it. The Marines in the South Pacific did one a month and no one seems to notice or care.
