Captain First Rank Alekseyev of the Ballistic Missile Submarine K-19 re-read the firing orders,Only an hour earlier he had decoded the signal together with the Political Officer a man who was well above his station.

Together with his crew they had spent over 2 months at sea , along time even for a top line Hotel class SSBN one of the finest in the Red Banner Fleet, but it had been hard on the crew no sunlight just recycled stale air and the smell of sweat.

Alex had spend the early part of his career on conventional boats in WW2 and the 1950s decided to transfer to the new nuclear boats...but why remain submerged for 2 months.

The reason was simple ...remain undetected... close the US Coast and conduct missile launch on the Capitalists, he had his orders the time had come to Unleash the Dogs of War.....

HUNTER OR HUNTED!

121200Z OCT 63
Location - Sea of Okhotsk
Sides - USS Halibut
Duration - 24hrs
Nuclear Option - On

The Commander of the SSGN USS Halibut wonders how the hell have we got ourselves in this situation, and asks "why didnt the Russians pull there Nukes outa Cuba".

Holding the correctly authenticated EAM "Emergency Action Message" he had been given his first strike order to launch his birds at the designated primary and secondary targets.

Even though the RGM 6A Regulus was a good missile it had some drawbacks,it could only be surface launched.

In training his crew could surface, load, fire 1 missile and dive in under 15 minutes but he had to fire 4 missiles at 2 different targets, which is at least 1 hr on the surface in hostile waters with a 500 mile range missile.

He was glad he had said goodbye to his wife and kids the day he sailed.... he knew he would never see them again......
