Hi to all

In first i'm happy to see a forum about one wargame which remains one of the best for me.

I used to play Squad leader 1st version and recently got the new version.
I always play it on boardgame and ask myself if it's possible to play it via email and how can i do it.

What is VASL .... JASL ?

Thanks for your answer

Regards
Fred

VASL is a program that allows you to play ASL over the internet live, it can be downloaded here;

http://www.vasl.org

make sure that you d/l everything, the program, all the boards, overlays and scenarios. PBEM will require special software, which may be provided by Warfare HQ.

For more information on VASL see the thread called "What is VASL - Information for Newbies."

I have not tried JASL yet, but from what I understand it is similar in concept to VASL, however, it allows you to play against the computer. I think there are only a few scenarios that are available right now and I don't know much about how the computer player operates. There is a new version of JASL that is going to be released soon and I have invited the author to visit Warfare HQ and keep us informed on the latest and greatest.

You should be careful with JASL, there is a warning on the website that says that the components needed to run JASL might make it so that VASL won't run.

Hmmmm, I've been PBEM with VASL3.0 and VASL4.0 for years with no special software other than VASL.

1. Don't start with a CG.

2. Pick small infantry only scenario for your first.

3. Step thru his log during MPh and when you shoot and have an effect end log and return it to him.

4. at some point as the moving player you might want indicate to press on no matter what happens.

It will be slower but you'll get the hang of it.

Thanks for the advice, lets see if I got this right. Your opponent moves a unit, then returns the log to you. You step through the log and indicate any oppotunity fire and the results (if any) of the opportunity fire, then you return the log to your opponent. You opponent then indicates what he will do with the unit. This proceedure is followed for every piece moved.

Nope.

Oppon. moves several units.

sends log to you.

you step thru until you do something

then send back to him

if he has units that "intended" to move they didn't, until he sees results and can change if wants to. (everything after your shot is null and void..)

it's really quicker to catch on to if you start a game

Check out the FAQ on PBEM, it is for the old style e-mail but gets to the heart of the issues.
