The Advanced Squad Leader section is brand new at Warfare HQ and we really think it is going to be a great addition to the club. What would you like most to see added to the webpage? You can select from the list above, but also be sure to provide us with some additional written feedback. As I have said many times in the past this club will only be as good as the members help to make it.

They all look good Don, may I also suggest reviews of upcoming ASL releases?

Yes, we are thinking of doing some previews and Q&As with various developers. There is a lot of stuff going on out there, but sometimes it's difficult for the developers and publishers to get the word out on what they are currently working on. Hopefully, this forum will be used to keep us all informed of what is happenening in the ASL world.

ASL releases gets my vote, and reviews would be nice as well.

I almost never pay attention to reviews, but most reviews these days are about computer games, and I rarely have much use for reviews of computer wargames let alone non wargames on the computer.

Reviews are often so indepth as to make excellent sleeping pills. But then I think too often "reviews" are done by people "paid" to look at a game as just another piece of software as well.

I like ASL enough though to enjoy getting indepth material on them.

Heck I could generate ASL reviews myself with my eyes closed.

Maybe I could even generate something up for the forum here if there is any interest. I am not referring to the sort of thing though that appear in the pages of the Annuals or Jounals though. By that I mean charts tables and excrutiating number crunching data analysis. That is neither my strong point nor something I would enjoy doing.

This ASL section is a great idea. I pick everything, I would like to see everything :). I like this game, even if I haven’t played it for a long time now, for one year at least. Since I exclusively play computer wargames, in fact. I’m not a crack player, far from that, even not a veteran. When I played it, my opponents knew the rule largely better than me in general. I remember someone who knew by heart the IFT. And he was (is !) able to give the DRM for the To Hit Table (case C and all that) in one second, when I tried to understand what Bounding First Fire meant. But ASL has a feeling that I have never found in any other game.
There are some Fanatics in the wargames club where I play(ed). I could speak them about the site.
Otherwise, if I would have some preferences, I would say AARs, articles on strategies and tactics, tips for VASL (I would like to try it, but I don’t exactly know how that works). And maybe some advice for beginner, the rules they should learn first, the scenario they should play…

You have to take a look at VASL. There is a new version out now and it is a very simple download and install. It's free and it works great! This thing is put together better than many "real" wargames are. The team that did it really did a fantastic job.

I was thinking about something Don, you will probibly need to add a rules section to this forum and have a rules guru to around to answer rule disputes. Just a thought.

That's not a bad idea, but as a general rule the best way to start a discussion forum is to keep the amount of different categories to a minimum until the forum really starts generating a lot of posts. Once a lot of members sign up and the forum starts hopping we can think about dividing it into sub-forums. So tell all your friends about this place. The more ASL fans that hear about it the better.

So how are things looking?

I have the manual, and you can bet I am capable of fielding responses about rules disputes, but hmm, would I want to be a rules guru? heck no hehe.

I don't know what sort of person would step and volunteer for such a task, but that person would have to enjoy being frustrated with people first.

We're slowly getting the word out about the new new ASL section, however, I'm not able to really add new content due to the fact that I'm away from my computer on vacation. When I get back I hope to start adding articles, AARs, etc. The section is a little empty right now, but it will start to fill up soon enough. We need your input. Most of this content is generated by the members so...

Is anyone aware of this? Is it being corrected? Thanks for the heads up.

I'm working on getting some more ASL content in the form of articles, tutorials, and scenarios. Please feel free to contact me if you have material that needs a home. Material that is submitted to Warfare HQ for posting remains the property of the author, not the webpage. That means you needn't worry about the club trying to steal the intellectual rights to a map, scenario, or article that gets posted here.

As far as scenarios and maps go, they can be uploaded directly into the Warfare HQ Scenario & Map Archive by the author. We currently don't have any ASL stuff in there yet, but I'm really hoping that word will get out and scenario authors will consider posting their efforts here. Just remember, even beta scenarios (scenarios that are still in the playtest phase) are welcome as long as they are marked as such. Same with maps.

If you don't have any articles or tutorials of your own to submit, you might consider teaming up with a friend to do one. You don't need to be a journalist to write a tutorial or article if you are working as a team! You might consider encouraging other ASL authors to consider using Warfare HQ as a place to share their work as well.

The bottom line is that we're trying to make the ASL section interesting and exciting with a little bit of something for everyone.

Looks like we have the interviewes in good shape. Are there going to be any aother articles soon? Perhaps we could get some in pdf format.

I've never used pdf format before so I'm not sure how it works. What I mean to say is, I've never created stuff in pdf. I look at pdf stuff all the time. One good thing about it is it makes things easy to print.

Let me think about that.
