View Full Version : Am I the only only one to think that

in the 2 highest difficulty levels in SWAT 4, the objectives are way unrealistic?

I mean, in the hijacked hotel level, my element bangs & enters one of the rooms to find a tango in a corner, gun raised and aimed some 45ΒΊ to my right. Of course I shot him, only to be accused of unauthorized use of force. In my book, a guy with his gun up and level is a threat, even if he's not really pointing it at me.

Another situation: after looking under a door and finding a tango with buttstock in the sholder, facing me, I set the C2 charge and blow the door, to stun the guy with the blast. if the guy happen to be incapacitated by the blast... unauthorised use of force penalty.

Now, I know that SWAT is a life saving organization and all that, but I don't think that officers facing men armed with automatic weapons in a ready stance will not shoot, even if they shout a compliance command...

This design decision is really afecting my enjoyment of the game, so I had to rant a bit about it (and avoiding the issue of how the AI manages to turn around, crouch, aim and him me with a split-second shot, while I can't even get close to it -like in the Rainbow Six series, actually... or how this non-lethal enphasis dictates the choice of weapons way too much.)

Any thoughts?

the last two missions are a bitch - the *only* way I could get through them was with a pepper guns which is just ridiculous in my book.

I do love how shooting a sus in the chest as he's raising his gun after gassing and pinballing him etc is considering an unauthorised use of force, but using the sniper to pick off some random taking a leak with his gun nearby is perfectly fine.

try the SWAT4 VU forums - I think someone came up with a use of force file that reduces the stringency.

I never found any use for the multiplayer system though I imagine on co-op it'd be great (need to arrange with people you know to play though and would be best with voice comms and none of my mates play swat4)

The ROE are incredibly tight on the upper difficulty levels but at least for close in room clearance you can take the risk of going in with a non lethal shotgun as you can get away with firing the non lethals without punishment if they are armed.

If there is more than one threat then the next guy through the door should hopefully deal with them. I also find gas works far better than flashes (though there are quite a few with gasmaks on the later levels) and ALWAYS take an optiwand - If you can see where they are before you charge in you can get them in your line straight away and beat them to the punch.

Even better if the room has two doors in, order one team to bang and clear and as soon as they are throwing the flash order the 2nd team in the other door just on a clear - once you get the timing down it works really well as being surrounded seems to drop tangos morale (making them drop weapons/run away) much faster.

Pepper gun on the last two? I'll have to give it a try. I stuck to the .45 SMG, myself.

Keep in mind that tasers can be used on anybody (I think you can taser cuffed suspects too, which is rather a loophole). Taser distracted suspects (gassed, stingered, banged) and they'll surrender. The only trouble is the reload time on the taser!

The sniper feature works they way it does, I suspect, because they couldn't work out how to program in the difference between a suspect holding a gun near a hostage (legal shot) and a suspect not quite holding a gun near a hostage (not legal).

In general, I've found that things in the game go best when I approach it as a first-person strategy game: clear methodically, with a careful route plan, and always distract suspects before getting into their line of sight. As Leud says, the miror is the key to victory. :)

None of which is to disagree with one thing you're all pointing to:

The Hard setting is.... HARD. :)
