HQ design questions

Command groups:

I've read the section in the manual about command groups, but I'm shakey on where they fall in relation to organization and function. For instance, normally, I've seen command groups used only in the HQ unit of a formation. A example:

1st Div HQ -- 2 command groups
*1st Bde
*2nd Bde
*3rd Bde

I can wrap my brain around that one. But what if someone...namely me...did the following:

1st Div HQ -- 2 cg
*1st Bde - 1cg
**1st reg
**2nd reg
**3rd reg
*2nd Bde - 1cg
**4th reg
etc....

Wherein the proceeding was all one formation. What effects would this have, if any?

Also is there any difference in attributes in the two HQ icons?

I don't think Command Groups have any effect if they are in a non-HQ unit. Is that your question? If you wanted to add command groups to the Bdes, you'd have to create Bde HQs within a seperate Bde formation.

I have HQs for the brigades, but they do not have their own formation, and that's what I'm really wondering about. How does their not being apart of a separate formation change things....
