Greetings,

I am trying to place the beach overlay (ovrBE) onto board 44.
I input the board overlay name and the board number. For hex one and hex two what do I put? The overlay should extend from 44A9 across to 44GG9 and should be two hexes deep. However, nothing happens when I input these hexes under the hex 1 and hex 2 column in the add overlay screen. :(

The overlays are placed in subfolder of the boards (c:/program files/vasl/boards/overlays.

What am I missing here. All the overlays are unzipped and appear to be in the right place. The instructions state you should see the overlay but I do not.

Help!

Thanks,
Michael

Cross-posted (for Michael) from an email I just sent to the 1GRB SASL group on a related question, in the hopes it will help anyone struggling with beach and overlay problems in VASL:

In the hopes it will help someone else, I was having trouble getting the VASL beach and ocean overlays setup properly on VASL. Eventually, with a lot of trial and error, I managed to work it out. In the event you need to place an overlay across the _length_ of a board (as I did), let me share how I managed to get it to work out:

1. Add two extra boards above the mission boards you rolled for. I used desert boards 26 and 27.
2. Add overlay Be4 to the board you rolled for that's going to be next to where the beach/ocean is to the following sets of hexes: GG0 and GG-1, U0 and U-1, K0 and K-1. That's assuming the board isn't flipped but placed regularly - if flipped, you should be able to use the coordinates I've given for non-flipped to work out alternative coords for the flipped version.
3. Add overlay Oc4 to the desert board closest to the shore to the following hexes: HH-2 and HH-3, V-2 and V-3, L-2 and L-3
4. Crop the top desert board to get rid of the extra desert hexes (or just leave it as is, if you'd rather).

Hope this helps someone! :-)

Regards,
Andrew

Which scenario are you trying to set up? Most of the scenarios are available on the vasl.org web site for download! You can always start there.

It's a SASL mission, Larry. :)

Its all taken care of due to the help of Andrew and Dave. What I think I was doing wrong was just putting ovrBE as the overlay to use and not specifying the specific overlay (be4 for instance)I wanted. I had not realized the ovrBE actually had a bunch of numbered overlays within.

Gotta be smarter than the software.
