View Full Version : Question about Supply "units"

Could someone clue me in as to exactly how a Supply "unit" works. Such as the three German supply units that exist in DNO 3.5.

-Are they basically Mobile supply points/sources? That would act as a supply base even if surrounded?

-Or just extensions of the supply line, that still need to trace a line of supply to the original supply points/sources back home?

If they act as supply points, I was thinking of perhaps modifying a WestFront (D-day) scenario to allow the Allies to invade at the beach of their choosing as opposed to Normandy. Instead of having to design supply points at each and every possible beachhead, I was thinking of the Allies being able to sealift on turn 1, two huge supply "units" that would act as the Mulberries and thereby be the initial supply sources. (Sea lift would of course be adjusted to accomidate these on turn one, then drop).

They are not supply "sources" in the sense you are asking. They do not dole out supplies to units around them as a supply source on the map would. Rather they increase the level of supply for all units around them by one level.

If surrounded, they and any units in the pocket will remain out of supply.

Thanks! I was afraid that would be the case.

You can get the effect you want using a couple of events. The first event would be the trigger, Force 1 (Allies) Occupies hex x,y and the second would be the effect, Place Force 1 Supply Point on hex x,y. Or, possibly you might want the occupation event to trigger a Theater Option which in turn places the supply point. This gives the Allied player the option of when to use the Theater Option and, therefore, when the supply point is activated.

Of course you would need a set of options for each supply point, but that should not be much of a problem.

Thanks RhinoBones. I was thinking of using the occupation event for at least the capture of major ports (after some kind of random delay in time to allow repairs, etc). The "mobile" supply sources as a unit would have been nice though. Sigh..... Just another add-on for the TOAW future-wish-list. :cheeky:

Perhaps you could have a theater option to place your supply point. If the idea was having a mobile supply point though, I guess that would be tough.
