A senior pentagon official has confirmed to Fox News on Sunday that coalition forces have discovered a "huge" chemical weapons factory near the Iraqi city of An Najaf, which is situated some 225 miles south of Baghdad.

Coalition troops are also said to be holding the general in charge of the facility.

Elsewhere I've heard that the plant was >100 acres in size.

Interesting. Seems like it would be hard to hide a 100-acre complex.

It wouldn't be if everyone didn't want to know it existed. To my understanding, the debate was over timing and the effectiveness of Weapon inspectors. At least privately, most of the UN Security Council were convinced Iraq was manufacturing and storing weapons of mass destruction.

As I stated in another post, when the Iraqi Ambassador to the UN first brought it's case to the UN SC after the war began, there are reports many members basically said "you brought it yourself."

The Pentagon said late Sunday that reports of allied forces having discovered a "huge" chemical weapons factory in central Iraq were "premature."

Bit too early to know what's really there.
