Another thread to help me guide this forum.
The vast majority of my gaming is done on the PC. However, since I grew up with a joypad in hand (Atari, Coleco, Nintendo, Activision, Odyssey), I do still find there are some enjoyable games on the console.
My faves are the survival horror genre. Silent Hill rules! The Resident Evil series is great. Tenchu and Onimushu were fun. Then, of course, there comes Final Fantasy.
But, for the purposes of this forum, I am wondering how popular console gaming is with our readers, if we should even give them mention. You all tell me what you think. I sense it's gonna be mostly PC heavy, in which case I'll only post a console game that looks to be Alyssa Milano good.
The voting is for a single choice only, but if you'd like to mention a game you'd like to keep up with, I'll be keeping a tally from your posts as well.
The floor is open.

The only 'strategy' games I ever got on console were Genghis Khan, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and PTO for the NES and Super NES. I bought Kessen for the PS2 but never played it.
What I do buy for the console is combat flight sims like Air Force Delta, Lethal Skies, Ace Combat 04, etc. that certainly don't require a keyboard worth of commands to play and have fun.
I find that 'right click' unit options, pull-down menus, and map-scorlling work SOOOOOO much better on a PC, there's just no reason to even attempt playing a strategy game on a console (ever try simcity?). I also stick only with the PC for RPGs and FPSs; mouse control is absolutely critical in an FPS, and a joystick or D-pad just doesn't do it for me. I have a few hard-core flight sims like the Jane's titles, but I don't play them often.
At the same time, when I want a little less 'thought provoking' fun, I grab the console and go runnin' and gunnin' playing side-scollers (ala Gradius, Contra, etc.) and the combat flight sims listed above.
And yes, I dodge and weave on the couch in the futile hope that by leaning left a little more, my plane will also bank a little faster.
Well it is simple really. When you look at the sheer abilities, computers hold a decisive advantage over consoles. The graphic capabilities of most PC’s easily outperforms that of consoles, as well as the fact that you have the ability to download patches to correct bugs. Also there comes the fact you don’t have to buy memory cards to save your games, and all of this coupled with the fact you are installing the game onto a hard drive, which means you don’t have to rely on reading all the games data from a CD. This allows for large more advanced gaming. I can’t see any pros of a console over a PC. Not to say there are not some very good console titles out there. Though most any X-BOX game you can get for PC, PS2 is a RPG powerhouse sport titles such as Devil May Cry, and Grand Theft Auto III (Though it is now available on X-BOX and PC). Game Cube is good for the young children, but most of the games (With the acceptation of STAR WARS: Rouge Squadron II & III and Super Smash Bros. Melee) that would be playable for the teenage or older gamer can be found on another console. The fact is PC and even Mac can out perform a console any day, and it won’t be long before consoles are phased out all together.
I certainly play many more games on the PC than on consoles, but I do have a PS2. I love playing good driving games like Gran Tourismo 3, also like the way shooters behave on the consoles more then the PC, like MOH.
Anything thats graphically intense is better for me on PS since I know it will run, and I dont have to worry about performance or compatibilty issues, also kind of neat on the big screen.

For first person shooters, I prefer the Xbox over the PC. Especially Tom Clancy's "Ghost Recon" series, and "Rainbow Six 3."
The PC is better for strategy games like "Medieval: Total War."
I really like games on Consoles mor because the graphics are better and you don't need a keyboard.
PS2 RULES!!
You can't find a Steel Panthers - World at War, a Heart of Iron or a Combat Mission on a console...
All you can find is some "Medal of Honor" kind of games, but I prefer the precision of the Mouse/Keyboard controls...
Don't get me wrong... I can appreciate a good console game (I finished Zelda - Ocarina of Time twice...) but for wargaming, PC is the only one...
PC gaming is better all the way, and thats all there is to it.

PC games are far superior to console games. Especially if one has the money to invest on a top of the line system. That is not to say that consoles dont have a couple decent wargames, though. I think that Armchair General should focus on console games as much as PC games as long as they are military/historically related games.

I definately play PC games way more over ones on my XBox. HiredGoon is right, First person shooters are better on consoles over PC for sheer simplicity of the controls. Driving games are also way better, too....try driving a Formula 1 car with the directional buttons on a laptop! (Yes, I know, why don't I have a joystick.....IM TOO CHEAP!!
When I want pure gaming fun....I go with PC, Starcraft through battle.net is a blast when you have good connections all around, and I wouldn't play Rise of Nations any other way! :D
I refrain myself from repeating this age old argument for the PC (as opposed to the age old arguments backing console).
But I throw this out, I think it depends on the genre and personal preference. For wargaming (hardcore style) it's PC all the way. For first person shooters (tactical and action) I prefer the PC because I need a mouse and a keyboard for them, they give me better control I think. When it comes to RPGs, the topic gets complicated. On the one side, console's have RPGs with interesting stories and neato graphics - the experience they give tends to be more of playing a novel, or playing a movie. You don't have much in the way of freedom, but generally the stories and characters are interesting. A computer RPG is something that old school nerds like myself love, some of them are almost like playing in a pencil and paper role playing game, Fallout and Fallout 2 being my favorite CRPGs. Here you tend to get a looser story with very little story-based character development, however, you can do so many different things (evil, good, self-interested, charitable, etc).
Huh, I meant to be short. Well, overall I think PCs give a much more interactive experience (isn't that what a game is meant to be?).
for the most part its and apple/oranges comparison. I think lounging in my chair holding a controller is far more comfortable than sitting at a computer (that's like work!)
It does sadden me that there are such limited strategy games available on the 3 main consoles. also, they all tend to be asian-o-centric. They take place in one of three milieu: The 3 Kingdoms period of Chinese history, the early 17th century period of Japanese civil war (The same era as the battle of Sekigahara), or they take place in some goofy anime/manga style fantasy world.
The Medal of Honor games are fun, but hardly teach lessons in strategy and tactics. Patterson is not passing on any fundamental lessons in small unit fire and movement!
You cant play an operational level game of Barbarossa on the Gamecube....wargames just dont work well.
They tried to port Starcraft to the N64 but it was a horrid translation and the game play was clunky and lacked the fast thinking intuition of it's older PC brother.
I think Warcraft 2, if modified gently and lovingly, might port well to the Xbox. Starcraft, too, even.
I think that I need not say more. As I have said before we won the console war. PC Gamers all the way

So, that machine is made by Apex, eh? I hope they do a much, much better job with it than they do the rest of their stuff. Their TV's and DVD players are crap.
Three different companies are going to make a version.
Semper Fi
I bought my sister an APEX DVD Player a lil over a year ago and she hasnt had any problems with it. But your right on the other apex stuff. CD players, tvs and all that are crap

I like consol because you can pop the game in and play. And you know your computer will have the right capabilities to play the game.

That is the one reason I see how consoles are better. It is gaurenteed to work (unless it is a really buggy game).
I have both a PC and an XBox and play both frequently. The console is used mostly for sports titles (lets face it, the PC just hasnt produced a decent sports title in ages...even the classics just dont see much use on the PC). The PC I use for war gaming/FPS games. The consoles cant touch the PC in the area of graphics (Im not sure what the guy was smoking that said PS2 graphics are better than a PC).
Looking forward to Madden 2005 and plenty of games coming soon for both my XBox and PC!
I enjoy Madden 2004 on the PC and will buy 2005 when it comes out. I just wish I had an XBOX for ESPN NFL 2005, but paying 150 bucks just to play one game is just too much...
The only time consoles own up on PC's: Party's involving hours of Bomberman (especially 10 player BM on the Sega Saturn).
